dna529 Posted July 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2014 Has anyone ever cruised to the Bahamas in January? I'm wondering if it would be warm enough to enjoy the pools/waterslides and the beach. We are thinking of sailing out of Charleston or Jacksonville.
<3 2 Cruise Posted July 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2014 We cruise a lot in Jan-Feb. I don't like to swim unless its hot, so I find the water a bit too cool for me to swim. But lots of folks do!. I enjoy the beaches, just not the swimming. Kids don't seem to mind the cool water.
cbCRR Posted July 30, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2014 The temps could go either way. A bit cool, but not unbearable. Depends how much you can tolerate. i still love sitting or walking the beach. I enjoy cruising that time of year except last year when weather was terrible at home and a pipe cracked while we were away. cruzinlisa Posted July 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2014 I have been in mid February (around president's day). It was decent temperature. Not overly hot. I don't think I would have went swimming. It was overcast that day anyway.

Vitamin_Sea Posted July 30, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 30, 2014 it will be warm enough to do the pool and outside activites. We were on Splendor this past January/Febuary in Nassau and Freeport
Carnival Cutie Posted July 30, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2014 We're doing a January cruise next year to the Bahamas. I've been there on land vacations in January several times but never a cruise, I usually cruise in the fall. My experience was that the water on the beaches is not warm enough to swim but the temperature is nice. Plus it's such a welcome change from the cold weather in the winter. You'll have a good time regardless. Enjoy your cruise!!:)
momonthego17 Posted July 30, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 30, 2014 My family of four (DH, me, DDs 12 & 14) had a great time on our January 2014 Bahama cruise on Fascination, but it was a bit chilly. We are booking another cruise Jan 2015 but we are heading to Aruba, where it will be a bit warmer:D. Check out my review of Fascination 2014 (link in my signature) for more details. Have a great cruise!
OCruisers Posted July 30, 2014 #10 Share Posted July 30, 2014 The water temperature in the Bahamas is always way too cold for me to swim in Jan/Feb. On a rainy, windy day the air temperatures can also be very chilly! We always hope for a SUNNY day so we can enjoy some other things there. familycruzr Posted July 30, 2014 #11 Share Posted July 30, 2014 I think a lot depends on where you are from. We live in the Chicago area, so it's not too cold for us. If you are from a warmer climate, you might find it chilly.

Swampbabe Posted July 30, 2014 #13 Share Posted July 30, 2014 The Bahamas are not tropical. They get the same temperatures that Florida gets. Can be warm, cold, or somewhere in between. Personally, I think the water would be too cold for swimming but I am a thin blooded Floridian. :p
Rare Jamman54 Posted July 30, 2014 #14 Share Posted July 30, 2014 We were at HMC in February, and being from New Jersey, it was fine for me. The water temperature in the Bahamas January / February is 70 -74 degrees, the same as it is at the Jersey Shore in the summer!! Air temperatures for the same time period are 72-80 degrees. It was comfortable, and I got a little sunburned.
bptex Posted July 30, 2014 #15 Share Posted July 30, 2014 At Atlantis the lagoons fed by open water were too cold for me to wade past knee deep but riding jet skis was great, I never fell off though. It was January 20th ish. I remember the regular pools being a lot warmer and judging by everyone at the water park I'd say it was probably better. The weather was spectacular though! kona_wahine Posted July 30, 2014 #18 Share Posted July 30, 2014 We were there this past January when it was a bit too cold. Went to HMC and I couldn't get in the water. :( I'm from Oregon so anything reasonably nice would have been warm to me. It was sunny but cold and very windy. Rebooked the cruise for next April so we can hopefully enjoy a nice day there.
kristy29 Posted July 30, 2014 #19 Share Posted July 30, 2014 I went in January twice. Both times the water temp was a little too cold for my liking, but I prefer it to be at least 80 to swim. The air temp was nice enough to lounge on the beach, but it was a little chilly after a brief shower the second time, but I laid with my towel on me until it warmed up and then I was fine. It was definitely a better alternative to being back home in PA in January!!

naz022292 Posted July 30, 2014 #22 Share Posted July 30, 2014 We went out of NYC during the "Polar Vortex" this past January. Our first port was Port Canaveral - it was 32 degrees and WINDY - we were cold even being from New England. As for Freeport and Nassau - both of those days were in the high 60's low 70's - I don't know what the water temperature was but we were in the water! is was 10-20 degrees back home - so we loved the 70's! As for the water temperature... we grew up going to Hampton Beach - still go every year. Today, July 30th, 2014, the water temp is 63! To us, the water in the Bahamas was perfect! Look forward to having a great cruise! :) LuLu We went for a land vacation, and mind you, this was 16 years ago, in April, and it was WAY too cold to swim. Pool and ocean.:mad: I probably would NOT book a Bahamas cruise in January. Basically, you are going to have the same weather that FL is having. And the past few winters, they have been COLD. Rare Tapi Posted July 31, 2014 #24 Share Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) We went on the Fascination from JAX. We were FREEZING (for Georgia standards :o). The weather was beautiful, not a cloud in the sky, but it was definitely not pool or beach warm. Most people spent the majority of the cruise in sweatshirts/sweaters/hoodies and jeans. I put shorts on only one day out of five. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app Edited July 31, 2014 by Tapi
