suebea75 Posted August 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2014 I was told all along we would be assigned two weeks out tomorrow but still no assignment! Today got a call selling me a future cruise and was told we might not get it until we board I have never had this before even with guaranteed cabin. Really not liking this! Bosjoe Posted August 22, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2014 If you booked a guaranteed cabin, then you can get it the day of the cruise. There is nothing to be nervous about, they are not going to leave you. You are guaranteed that catagory or higher. This does happen and I have seen it on other cruise lines. 11toCruisePlease Posted August 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2014 I would never book a gyt. And I definitely would. Has ALWAYS been good. Whether it's the day after I book or when I showed up to embark and set sail.... Like they said above, you get that or higher. It's a cabin you paid for. No big mystery there. OR HIGHER!!! maureencruiser Posted August 22, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2014 Sue, Don't be nervous, I have booked plenty of guarantees and, often, did not receive a room assignment until I arrived at the pier. Think about it like a hotel, you take whatever room they assign you, there, right? If you don't like the room you get, book an actual cabin next time. Have fun! Is this your first cruise? :)

11toCruisePlease Posted August 22, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 22, 2014 Location location location, no way I will book a gyt. True. The location location location will be on the ship. Good point. All those posts that you have racked up I see, are to tell someone else that a gty is NOT ok?? I don't think that's fair. As I can read here, others have found gty to work out just fine. Not hate my friend, but I feel experienced as well to say to the fine cruiser worried that it will be OK!!!
AmoMondo Posted August 22, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2014 I personally don't like GTY either. I don't want to end up below a pool deck or above the show lounge. BUT, seems with MDC there are not very many cruises now on sale where you let you pick your cabin, just your cabin type and experience. I get the point about the comparison with hotels but they need not to have rooms under a pool with those noisy sun loungers scraping on the floor. I've never had a bad cabin assignment with a Ty yet. I've twice picked a cabin in a very bad location though. First wasn't entirely my fault, there was very little choice left but I manged to pick one alongside the exit and the ship was docked for a couple of nights in the first 2 points. Long haul flight, jet lag and all those feet traipsing over that metal ramp....grrrr. Then had to keep curtains closed nearly all the time as people could see right in. Second time I failed to spot there was a 6 tier atrium which worked as an excellent sound tunnel for noise from the late night bar coming through my cabin wall! So I only had cabins above and below but boy was that a noisy cabin.

MsTabbyKats Posted August 22, 2014 #13 Share Posted August 22, 2014 That is true. Does anyone know why MSC does not let you pick most inside cabins? They may sell out fast....so not many left. I had an I1...which was showing as only guarantees available. I switched to an I2....and then the I1 category listed my former cabin as the only one in the category. That was yesterday....it's back to only guarantees again.
Zevo Posted August 22, 2014 #14 Share Posted August 22, 2014 If you go onto the MSC website and pretend to book an excursion or pkg. it will ask for your booking number name and sail date. At that point you should be able to see your cabin assignment if it was assigned.
Aussiegrlfl Posted August 23, 2014 #15 Share Posted August 23, 2014 I have cruised over 30 cruises and have used both gty and choosing my cabin...........now while I like midship cabins, I have to say my gty experiences have been good, so for the $299 I paid for an inside gty for 7 days, I don't care which cabin I get..........I won't be in it much, just to sleep and with the premium drink package, I'm not thinking sleeping even with noise will be too much of a problem........and we usually stay in the casino late..........I've not been given my cabin assignment until I got to the pier before, they had pages of papers with peoples names and cabin numbers on them...it was a no worries thing..............I will be cruising and THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS... lamchops Posted August 23, 2014 #16 Share Posted August 23, 2014 That is true. Does anyone know why MSC does not let you pick most inside cabins? We just booked our first MSC europe cruise 5 weeks ago and we had to settle for a GTY inside. I just assumed that was all that was left and we wanted the itinerary. Just got assigned a Balcony room on Panera deck aft. That a very good upgrade as far as I'm concerned. 4 weeks to go and we're off on the right foot.:)
suebea75 Posted August 24, 2014 Author #17 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Eureka we got our cabin but no tickets they claimed they were sent on 20th of Aug but I never received them of course after I called and waited on the phone for almost 1/2 hour they came. I took Zevos advice and attempted to book an excursion and there it was my room assignment coincidence? Anyway you Gt optimistic cruisers were right and we got a balcony near elevators Port side Stern category 11B I am so thrilled this is our first MSC cruise but we have been on Disney 7 times the last two no kids. Have booked both ways on Disney usually get what you book which is much more expensive than this cruise. Going to Hawaii from Vancouver next Sept on Disney our 30th and wanted something different this year! Looking forward to trying something new and also do not spend much time in our room! thank you for all the feedback such a friendly group of cruisers hope to see some of you on board.
