Akitkat118 Posted August 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Hi all - quick question. We have later afternoon flights after docking in FLL after our cruise. (3:50 flights). We figured wherever we went post cruise we would just ask the managers nicely if we can put the luggage somewhere while we were in their facility. BUT, someone just suggested to me to use the Luggage Valet and then the next time I will see my bags is (hopefully) on the carousel at my final destination. Has anyone ever used this service? How well does it work? Any issues? And does it cost anything?! Thank you!!
Clarea Posted August 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2014 I believe Royal charges $20 per person, plus any airline baggage fees for the service.
sheffield Posted August 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2014 We used it yesterday and it worked perfectly. We were on the Oasis of the Seas. We were flying with Jet Blue, it cost us $20 per person. If you are flying with an airline that charges for bags you also have to pay the bag charges. You get an envelope in your cabin the last night with your luggage tags, an airline tag with your baggage claim number on it and your boarding passes. You put your bags out as usual on the last night before 11 pm and then next see them at the baggage carousel when you arrive at your final, destination. We thought it was wonderful and think it is a great deal for just $20 each.

I came back from dinner around 10:00 pm and found a note that said they were unable to print my boarding passes with 3 luggage tags attached to use. I wont go into detail but this really goofed up my plans as I was planning to take the train to the airport sans luggage. Ended up taking a bus from the terminal. mattpro Posted August 24, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Personally, I've used this service every time it has been offered. Best service any passenger can buy in my opinion.

mattpro Posted August 24, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 24, 2014 A few things to note A flyer will come into your room - usually Tues. or Wed. with your daily compass, explaining how the program works. You must fill out and submit to Guest Services by Thursday. The charge is $20 pp, unless you're staying in a GS or higher (complimentary). Your airline flight has to be departing after 12 noon. Your airline must be listed as a participating airline. When filling out the form - note if you are a premium member with your airline (put in account #) so you will not have to pay an additional charge for baggage. I am a gold member with U.S. Airways and this has always worked fine for all scheduled departures after 12 P.M.

That was my experience on the Oasis & IOS out of FLL and FOS out of Port Canaveral. My thoughts ? - Why chance it. Have a late breakfast on the ship and take your time getting to the airport. barbon2 Posted August 24, 2014 #14 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Hi, I have the US Airways MC, so our first two bags are free. I guess you can write this in on the form somewhere? I want to use this service on our upcoming Allure cruise, but do not want to write my credit card number on the form. Can someone who has used this service with the Master Card, please reply. Thanks, Barb

Thanks, Barb We have the United Presidential Card MC where we each get to check two bags free also. We just use our Mileage Plus Account numbers when filling out the Luggage Valet forms because our credit card number is associated with our Mileage Plus Account Number. US Airways should work the same. You can call them and find out before you leave. Plus, when you book a R/T ticket all the information will be in the system and associated with your boarding pass and e-ticket. It's the end of a vacation - who wants any unnecessary stress . Have used luggage valet on 4 occasions catching the same 11:30 flight out of FLL. Paperwork said for flights after 11:30 - never had a problem. Love the service. No one at guest services ever mentioned the 11:30 flight time. The only thing I would suggest is to sign up early in the week. You cannot do this last minute as it has to go to the airline for approval Also, I found it easier to do the paper sign up at guest services than do it from the cabin TV. Cabin TV had problems with doing "no charge" baggage because of airline status, etc. It was easier to fill out and hand to a guest services rep. Clarea Posted August 25, 2014 #19 Share Posted August 25, 2014 Has anyone done this with early bird check-in with southwest? Thank you Early Bird should not make a difference in using Luggage Valet. Early Bird just gives you a better boarding number.

Big_G Posted August 25, 2014 #21 Share Posted August 25, 2014 Has anyone done this with early bird check-in with southwest? Thank you Yes. Always and our luggage always arrives at the final destination. On another note, the flight times vary when sailing out of Port Everglades depending on whether your flying from FLL or MIA. FLL flights had to be after 11:30 am and MIA were after 2:30 pm on our last trip.
Llmtax2000 Posted August 25, 2014 #22 Share Posted August 25, 2014 I understand this will be considered a "high class problem" -- but the only issue we've had with luggage valet is that American Airlines did not attach the bright orange "priority luggage" tags otherwise slapped on luggage of first class passengers when the bags are checked at the airport. Bosjoe Posted August 25, 2014 #23 Share Posted August 25, 2014 One thing I learned also, they do not weigh the bags, learned this from customs working spot checks on Valet services. Twice my party has been pulled out for additional searches from customs using the valet services. Great service though, funny both times I used it, I got pulled for additional check, which actually worked out good as your personally escorted of the ship to customs, right pass the big line ups. :)
rcixfan5 Posted August 25, 2014 #24 Share Posted August 25, 2014 Something nobody has mentioned yet is the one time we used it in FLL we had to be the first group to leave the ship right after the people carrying their own stuff. We were told the reason was the bags cannot leave the cruise port until we clear customs. While we didn't have to lug the bags, I guess they had rounded up all the bags as all of us with luggage valet cleared customs, so did our bags somewhere nearby. In the end it was nice, but since we had a 2 pm flight it wasn't that fun getting to the airport at 9am. On a later cruise, we found out that FLL was testing a new procedure where you couldn't check in more than 2 hours before your flight. On that return we had an 11:30 flight but it would have been a bummer if we had an afternoon flight and couldn't check in. patattack Posted August 25, 2014 #25 Share Posted August 25, 2014 Has anyone done this with early bird check-in with southwest? Thank you I used it with the early bird check in with Southwest last month. Worked great and I was A-19. I did not buy the early bird check in on the flight going down and was on the website right on the dot and was B-27. pat
