I was wondering this the other day myself. While I wouldn't want to sound ungrateful if it were me in that situation and having gotten the OBC, I was definitely wondering what happens to the taxes in that case? I don't know enough about how/when the taxes get paid to be sure, but I wondered if X still had to pay them if the ship didn't actually dock?

Port fees are not charged unless the ship is actually in port.

We arrived today as the third ship in port after Breakaway and Carnival Fatasy. Another ship was pulling in after us. As we docked it started to rain but has since cleared to a very hot and muggy day. We did our usual Nassau day and rented a car, are spending the day in the shade and water on our favorite deserted beach on the northwest side of the island. For the price of a couple of burgers we get to use the beach which has wifi. I considered doing a shark dive as they are great here but I felt like more relaxation.

We haven't been to a show or much entertainment outside of Michael's Club. The martini bar has been eerily quiet. We've really enjoyed some private yoga classes we arranged at the spa.

Of course everything isn't perfect, but what fun would that be as we're having a great time none the less. We've also met some great people.

Happy,

Jenna

Ps sorry for any typos this was done on my phone

Happy to hear you are getting to enjoy a great beach day !!

Gotta say your attitude is terrific... And no doubt will serve you well (now & later)

In that you'll forever now have an interesting Hurricane story to tell... Plus are going to make some great friends Enroute... Sometimes it takes a wee bit of the unexpected / unfortunate to bring out the best in people / bring folks together

*Fingers Crossed* that your trip north will be smooth sailing

Cheers!

So then, in theory, people are at least owed a refund of the difference they paid in taxes/port fees between where they thought they were going and where they did go?

Again, this is not meant to be a flaming question or ungrateful or anything else other than a real question.

We received $82.93 per person refunded to our onboard account today in addition to the OBC we received, this could be nothing else than a refund in the difference in the port charges.

We started with a LOT Of OBC, added some for booking a future cruise, and added the extra for missing Bermuda, it's really staggering amount we ended up with for a week long cruise. We have a pretty big spend onboard so I never thought we could end up with a credit, but this changes everything.

Have faith X fans, it seems they've handled this as well as could be expected.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

Watch out because some OBC is use or lose, and other OBC you get refunded to your credit card. Make sure you know the difference so you're not surprised at the end of your cruise thinking you will get a refund for all of it.

How is the last day of the cruise going?

The last two days of the cruise were very nice and relaxing. We avoided the pool and spent time at the spa (not meeting our expectations or any better than Steiner) and on our balcony.

Suite guests in Celebrity Suites and above have access to Michael's Club as a private lounge. We had Jordan Peterson a couple of times plus a few other performers.

No promises but I'll try and post more thoughts later. We did book for 8/30/15 to get to Bermuda on Celebrity as well as one other 15 day cruise.

We were on the 8/10 Summit Cruise and yes, Michael's club was open 24 hours a day- for the Summit Suite and Zenith members- it was typically very empty, but it was nice to have some entertainment, snacks and drinks. The captain's club also had a function that conflicted with a Michael's club function, also lowering potential guests. Of course, many people do have a drink package, so they didn't necessarily come to Michael's for drinks or specialty coffees which must be consumed in the venue. The high tea was really nice, but my DH and I were the only guest in Michaels who attended. Talk about a private function! Michael's also didn't prepare frozen drinks-

We still enjoyed Michael's and am sure when the "bugs" are removed and it is advertised better, more guests will enjoy it!

A couple other observations:

Seas were VERY (eerily so) calm for the last 24 hours.

Disembarkation from Michael's Club, including a suite line for customs was very nice though "breakfast" was quite sad.

The casino was quite active each night. The martini bar was much busier last night.

We're totally bored of menus in Blu and even Normandie. We had one dinner which was ok and one lunch with fair service in the main dining room. It's not our thing.

The new enhanced menu in Bistro on 5 is great, even for dinner and we'll worth the $7. It was often crowded during lunch. We we're told by year's end the menu would be fleet wide.

Indulgence was interesting. It still needs refinement. Liquid was a busy for us. We missed Frozen (their "White" party).

While the ship does show wear and tear here and there, especially in the bathroom and balcony of our suite it's really the staff that makes or breaks a cruise.

Sorry for the "poor" review format. I'm just sharing done general thoughts as we're off to catch a flight but would be happy to answer questions.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

what time was the high tea at? Was this in Michael's that they did it? What were the offerings of the tea?

I believe on a sea day, perhaps last. They offered a wonderful assortment of teas, scones with cream and jam, and some other goodies. Chef's were also present! Three high hat gentlemen dressed in white. Details were listed in our suite documents.

A nice photo opportunity. For my DH and I only. Also a pretty chocolate covered strawberry

I don't believe the offered this on our sailing. I believe they offered a captains club high tea.

I was also on this trip. I thought it all worked out well. Yes, some people where upset missing Bermuda. We had good weather going where we did.

The Breakaway and Pride followed us in port .

We were in CC aft and got $78 port charges back pp.

Really loved Tenors of Rock, Frozen White party was fun. I was crying laughing at Liar's Club.

Yes kids, we travel this week almost every year and know it's right before school starts. Didn't think any kids were out of control.

Enjoyed seeking the Captain around the ship. My husband and son played volleyball with him in the pool.

Jenna,

First off thanks for starting this thread and taking time out of your vacation to keep us all updated here. I believe Celebrity made the right decision diverting the ship away from Bermuda and that they did a very nice gesture with the refundable OBC (I think the refundable part is pretty cool of them).

I was simply stating my personal opinion (I am entitled to one of those, correct?) that I would be annoyed about going to Florida as opposed to Bermuda. I have been on plenty of ships that have missed/changed ports for various reasons and it has never ruined a trip, and as I said the premium beverage package would sure help smooth over the disappointment of not going to our desired destination.

I was disappointed to visit Florida and the Bahamas, especially since we just got back from there in December.

That being said! We rebooked this cruise and will be sailing to Bermuda the same week and in the same room next year! I figure lightening doesn't normally strike the same place twice. Guess we will find out! But if it does I really don't want to go back to Florida or the Bahamas...lol!

We can only control what we can control. We would have loved to visit Bermuda but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I saw you removed the OBC part of your post. I was simply going to respond about the fact that you're probably right, it may not have been fair but at the same time some people only received $100 and many sailed with the third and fourth person on the cabin free.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

We only received $100 ($20 per person). I removed it because I didn't want anyone to think I wasn't grateful for it because I was. We used it to pay for a little extra time in the fun factory so my husband and I could attend some of the late night adults only shows.

I have a hard time with change. I may have had to take a Xanax after realizing my 6 months of planning was out the window and I had no idea what I was going to do with my kids in our new ports. Thankfully the very nice, helpful and awesome concierge helped me plan a few new things for us in our new ports.

When was our meet & mingle? I kept waiting for a invite in our stateroom or something in the schedule but never saw anything.

I'm glad to hear the concierge helped you plan your new adventures!

I think the meet and mingle was Monday at 10:30am. I couldn't register online, so I emailed a contact at Celebrity who asked the ship to make sure we were on the list. We ended up not going anyway, though I can't remember why, oh well.

Michaels was closed all week even to suite & Zenith guests?

Was that because the Michaels Concierge was out sick?

Whoops, for some reason I thought you were in a suite. I'm pretty impressed you fit 5 in a cabin! Wow!

I'm definitely glad we had no firm plans for this cruise, it would definitely have driven me nuts as well!

Happy sailing,

Jenna
