shellyfronk Posted April 14, 2015 #101 Share Posted April 14, 2015 You won't have a soot problem in either of those cabins as they are mid ship. As for the aft balconies, we were on one in January (R734 Regal) and it was no big deal. The stewards are very good at cleaning the balconies twice a day. I have no complaints and rebooked the same cabin on the same ship next year.
jigger_b Posted May 5, 2015 #102 Share Posted May 5, 2015 We generally book aft facing or the last aft cabin starboard or port. With the soot issue, we're looking at a Dolphin cabin (D715) which is five cabins forward of the aft facing suite. It's a Deluxe Balcony (prefer a little more space for a longer cruise). Might this be forward enough to escape most of the soot issue?

You should be fine -- we were in an aft corner suite and while the aft balcony had a definite soot problem, the small side balcony had very little. Our traveling companions were further down the hall (still in the 7XX series of cabins) and had no soot at all.

Thanks - do you feel that the last aft starboard or port cabin will not have issues as well? We like the wake view even from the side.

We like the wake view even from the side. I think you will be okay -- at least I've never read of anyone complaining about that cabin. Realize that with the last aft cabin you will need to lean out over the rail and look back to see the wake since there will be a partition with the owner's suite side (bedroom) balcony on the other side. Thank you again - yes, we often book C743 on most ships because of the better wake view which we need to look out a bit to enjoy. Once in a while we bite and get our favorite aft facing but since they are now more than minis in some cases, we're booking other options.
mistyann Posted May 5, 2015 #109 Share Posted May 5, 2015 Was on Regal this April in B739-Deluxe Aft Balcony cabin and we did have soot each day. It wasn't that much and the steward cleaned it each day, but we took cheap flip-flops and keep them at the balcony door to slip on and off so we didn't get soot all over our feet or shoes. Also put a towel on the carpet just inside the door so we didn't track soot in. It was clear the previous guests didn't care about tracking soot in onto the carpet, it had pretty bad staining around that area....sad since the Regal is so new! This was our first aft cabin and we did enjoy the wake, but the soot did add a bit of a hassle to our trip :( We were on the Royal last year (not aft) and I must say that we LOVE the two ships, they have all the things WE like!! That much staining already is not good. They could make an effort to clean that area more, but it probably doesn't take long to get messed up again. :(
Flo71 Posted May 19, 2015 #111 Share Posted May 19, 2015 Just got off the Regal today. Our cabin was E726, the last aft cabin next to the suites and we didn't notice any soot whatsoever. :) We have A726 on a cruise on the Royal Princess for August and was concerned about possible soot problems, it is side facing but very close to the aft balconies. Hoping it isn't affected by soot. We booked on a guarantee and were aloocated this cabin. Are you able to ask to be moved if you booked on a guarantee for the same grade cabin you have been allocated?

We were in R726 on the Regal at Christmas and had no soot issues although had been worried after seeing this thread. Turned out to be no problem & love being all the way aft as it is sooo much quieter than other places on the ship. Enjoy your cruise!
