United_11 Posted September 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2014 Hi All, I just put myself and my dad on the waitlist for a Mexican Riviera 7-day cruise in November. This would be my 12th with Princess. I've never done the waitlist before and am nervous. We are #4 on the waitlist for a balcony category that had a price of $749. There are balcony categories currently available for $959 (about 15 staterooms currently). What are the chances of clearing the waitlist soon (I don't like not being guaranteed)? I read some of the message boards and people said when you are offered a room off the waitlist it is often at a much higher than the price I was quoted. Am I better off just paying for the $959 balcony now to guarantee it and not bother with the waitlist? I'm not flexible in taking a different cruise, so I want to be on this one. Thanks for all your help!
cherylandtk Posted September 19, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2014 There is no promise that a room in your preferred category will open up. Since you stated you must be on this cruise, your only real choice is to pay the higher rate to ensure that. The rate for your preferred category will be whatever rate is showing on the date the room opens up (if it does). It could be higher, lower or the same as today. If you have to be on the ship......pay the price.
Working 2 Cruise Posted September 19, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2014 I agree with Cheryl. If you must be on that Cruise, bite the bullet and pay the higher fare. If and when you clear the wait list, you could wind up paying even more!
MCC retired Posted September 19, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2014 You are waitlisted for the category , not the price . Price will be whatever it will be IF it opens at all . You must be on that cruise and only that cruise so don't count on a waitlist when you can have a even better category now . chelsea922 Posted September 20, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2014 Be sure to check prices (daily if possible) after you book to take advantage of any price drops that occur.:)
DrivesLikeMario Posted September 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2014 My advice: hang in there and wait. I'd give it until the end of October if you can. They'll move a few people up into the higher balcony categories and free up your category OR they'll call you and let you know a slightly more expensive balcony category (than the lowest one) is available.
