Margaritavillager Posted September 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2014 Generally how long does it take to get off the ship and then back on? We will be in Grand Cayman for 7 hours...Cozumel for 9...just wondering how much I should deduct for tendering. Should we really figure on 5 hours for GC and 7 hrs for CZ? CruiserBruce Posted September 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2014 First, you need to remember most cruise lines will require you to be back on board a certain time prior to scheduled sailing. 30 minutes is common. So, that policy typically becomes the last tender will leave shore that time prior to sailing. So, again, 30 minutes is common. The second thing you need to know is that people on ship's excursions typically get priority on tender seats at the first rush. That will delay you if you are not going on a ship's excursion, and have no other priority, like being in a suite, or being a elite cruiser with the cruise line. Your numbers are pretty good. Maybe shave an extra 30 minutes off each.
Talisker92 Posted September 29, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2014 We try to figure to be on the next to last tender, so if there is a glitch, we have an out.
OCruisers Posted September 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2014 In Grand Cayman the tender process normally is painless. Very unlikely you'll need to tender in Cozumel. Look forward to having a great cruise. :) LuLu
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2014 In Grand Cayman, if there are a lot of ships there -- it can take quite a while to tender ashore. Some ships use the island tenders which have priority. The ships using their own tenders have to wait for the island tenders to unload their passengers. One time we just sat in the tender while 3 island tenders got the go ahead to unload. We sat there for over an hour an many people missed their tours. Again in Cozumel -- most of the time you do get to dock. But we also encountered tendering there a couple of times.
dancinman66 Posted September 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2014 Tendering varies from 15 to 45 minutes Plus queue times which is the big one unless your organised to get a ticket and off early Sent from my iPhone using Forums
cb at sea Posted September 29, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 29, 2014 Once the tender starts moving, it's about an 8-10 min ride to the dock. You have to allow time for the tender to fill and empty...it shouldn't take an hour, tho! And, upon returning, as long as you are in the tender line for the last tender, no matter how long the line is, they will get you to the ship. We've rarely felt the need to stay ashore that long! leaveitallbehind Posted September 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2014 According to your signature it appears you are on Carnival. They dock in Cozumel, so you will not be tendering there.
jammen Posted September 30, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 30, 2014 I have had no problem for the tendering. Just don't miss the time zones when in place.
