Norovirus - Adventure of the Seas?

Recommended Posts

I never pay any attention to anything written on that website. The information, which is presented as a question, isn't confirmed - which is typical for them.

I couldn't agree with you more about the website. That's why I went to Roll Call and looked up the cruise (28 Nov 2014 and 12 Oct 2014) for AOS. The cruise leaving yesterday was delayed due to the deep cleansing that had to be done.

Well that was the source you referenced for your thread without mention of the roll call information.

And as to the CDC, while there are other conditions regarding the reporting requirements to the CDC for noro outbreaks on cruise ships, the level of passengers or crew affected needs to reach 2% of the total on board before notification is given. So on a ship with say 3,500 passengers and crew that threshold would be 70 people affected. Not just "many" as the article references.

We were on the Sept 12/14 cruise. A lady brought Norovirus on the ship with her. As the Capt put it at the Q&A on the last day, she filled out the "medical form incorrectly." There was a lot of cleaning going on, the hand rails and all the gaming surfaces in the casino were constantly being cleaned. We all had to be off the ship by 0900 when we got back to Southampton so they could do a deep clean. I think it was about 55 people that got sick.

I was on the Granduer of the Seas in April an got the Noro Virus and I would not wish this on anyone. When we opened our door there was a Bio Hazard bag hanging on the railing across from our room, plus when you look down the hallway there a lot of Bio Hazard bags everywhere. The crew did the best they could, they were tired because the cruise before ours also had a the virus.

Just off the Adventure and it was the second consecutive cruise with Noro and it was not good believe me.

I dont think they were being completely honest about numbers as on the last night they left us a questionaire asking had we been ill or not been ill as they needed to know for their statistics!

I second that, but the crew were working double shifts to clean it up. All hands (oops) were serving up and cleaning down, including the star singer and the ice captain, however, its was obvious that some guests were still dodging the hand sanitisation process and complaining that the chair arms were wet from the cleaning process. I even witnessed someone not washing after visiting the toilets for a No2.

Cant blame RCCI, as the passengers were not helping to eradicate it. I would like to see that all handles on passenger mobility items were regularly sanitized or else what is the point.

Luckily, we did not suffer from it.

I went on the 28/9 - 12/10 cruise also. Was told by our server at dinner that lots of people were affected by Noro and we were at a 'code 3' - what that means i'm not sure.

We were speaking to one of the other passengers, and she told us that she was down in the Medical Centre (not because of Norovirus) and the doctor told her that almost 400 passengers and crew were ill with the virus - everyone has been told something different!

We got a different story about the ship may be quarrantined on return to Southampton!!. I think the brief was not to let the truth get out.

Just read on Cruise Law News that there has been an outbreak of Norovirus on the Adventure of the Seas. http://www.cruiselawnews.com/2014/10/articles/norovirus/norovirus-on-the-adventure-of-the-seas/

There are comments confirming the outbreak below the article.

Nothing has yet posted on CDC's website.

There won't be anything on the CDC/USPH website. Since the cruises in question do not call at US ports, USPH has nothing to do with the ship, and the ship is not required to report to the USPH. I'm not sure what agency a ship is required to report to in the EU, or whether it is a national requirement still, but they generally are required to meet WHO guidelines outside the US.

If that number is correct, about 10% of passengers and crew, then there is a serious outbreak, the MDR would be significantly empty with folks in quarantine, and I would have thought your local media would be all over it (though maybe the British media doesn't go in for sensationalism ). The only mention I see about it is on Walker's joke site (always my morning chuckle).

Apparently, she did leave Southampton on time, so no detention in UK.

The MTDR did appear to be underused in the evenings during the second week, with the staff trying hard to use up surplus food

We were told the same by our server, thankfully the outbreak didn't affect our party at all. I was constantly amazed by how many people were ignoring the need to sanitise their hands.

if there were truly that may affected they would have delayed the ship from sailing. My memory goes back to leaving on the adventure a few years ago out of san juan and the princess ship was parked in front of us...empty except for crew....they were just starting to board when we were leaving at 830pm....ship had been cleaning all day due to noro...they left and two days later had to come back along with several other princess ships returning due to large outbreaks. It happens...everywhere not just on the cruise lines....washie washie washie....no matter what.......I actually got cussed at on last cruise as I was using a paper towel to open the door as that is what the little towels are hanging there for and a lady started to try to open the door to leave as well as i was getting a towel and I said to her...oh i got this....I will wait for you to wash your hands so you won't have to touch the door....not sure what language it was but geesh.....and then walked out to tell her husband again not sure what language but he was shaking his finger at me and I just shook mine back and said no washie her hands....germ city....yuck and looked disgusted....in the dining room they went....my husband laughed and said maybe in their country they don't wash and I said maybe in their country they all scratch their heads when they get sick too...yuck She saw me washing as she came out of her stall and proceeded to put on more lipstick and never washed....and no there wasn't a sink in her stall.

Is that a polite way of saying that she lied?

I think many people fail to realize that the website referenced by OP is not merely giving news to the public. It's sole purpose is to generate traffic and blog posts to the lawyer who specializes in suing the cruise industry.

I am pretty sure that is the guy who single-handedly changed RCI's flowrider policy which resulted in basically no tricks being allowed on the flowriders.

He can dress up his articles all he wants, but he is a scummy bottom-feeder as far as I am concerned.

From what others have added here, it seems the OP was legit, don't understand the rest about flowrider and noro!

They aren't saying the OP wasn't legit, but that the website he linked, to Walker's Cruise Law News, isn't news it is his frequently incorrect, almost always distorted, advertising for his practice of suing the cruise lines. Much of his "facts" come from posts here on CC. I've had the privilege of being mis-quoted by him a couple of times.

In 'this' case, the OP and the site mentioned were right!

You may not like that, but it seems to be true!

We were on the 28/09/2014 sailing from Southampton. Boarding was delayed due to an outbreak of Noro Virus on the previous sailing. With a day or so of our sailing it broke out again. Strict hygiene methods were implemented throughout every area of the ship, although there were the odd passenger who refused to hand wash for various reasons.

At the Captain's Q and A the hotel director said 91 cases had been confirmed with approximately 6 new cases daily.

However, when the cruise ended, a letter was left in every cabin asking if any guest had suffered any GI illness whilst on board- this suggested the true figures of passengers affected was not known.

Luckily my husband and I were not affected this trip, although I had Noro on a previous sailing on Adventure in 2013.
