carmel Posted October 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2014 A couple of days ago, I got an email telling me that my cruise was now a "Carnival Live Presents Styx" I read it all but really have no idea the impact. Are these types of cruises different? I mean, we are not going to cancel or anything but I am curious how this might be different from a 'regular' old cruise. Thanks! The band "STYX" will have a concert at one of the ports or on the ship, for an extra fee of course. Edited October 23, 2014 by BigEasyCC

Part of your entertainment will be a few live shows by Styx. They will board the band at some port, they will do their shows, then disembark. They have been offering these Live cruises all year and don't seem to be any different from other cruises at all. The bands are not something so popular as to cause the cruise prices to go up (they have actually been consistently listed as the least expensive prices available) or the ship to be extra crowded. I suspect you won't even notice any difference from a regular cruise.
carmel Posted October 23, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Is the cruise going to be a bunch of ancient STYX groupies? I'M JUST JOKING. I LOVED THEM TOO. I'M NOW ANCIENT MYSELF. LOL
falkcor Posted October 23, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Others have explained the basics of the concert, etc. which are correct. One other potential impact that could affect you are the port times for the day of the concert - they tend to stay in port quite late the day of the concert, as the bands debark after their concert, which is typically in the evening Sent from my iPhone using Forums

With the ship staying longer in port at night to accommodate the concert, some things on the ship may not be open like the casino and gift shops. In Nassau Leean (sp?) will come aboard later in the evening, give her concert, then get off the ship. My ticket was $20 for general seating. The ship will get there at 8 a.m., leave at 1 a.m.. Boozebabe Posted October 23, 2014 #10 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Anyone know where they perform? A couple years ago we were docked next to another Carnival ship in Cozumel and the Lynard Skynard band was performing on the Lido deck. We stood on our Lido and saw & heard the whole thing. How can they charge you to stand on the Lido deck? They would almost have to be in the showroom if they are charging.
Spudder Posted October 23, 2014 #11 Share Posted October 23, 2014 I thought I read they will be performing while in St. Thomas.
HawksFan74 Posted October 23, 2014 #12 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Looks like the Styx concert for your cruise will be in Nassau on Thursday, June 18. The scheduled departure time that day has been moved back from 5 pm to 1 am.

JAXCRUISER Posted October 24, 2014 #17 Share Posted October 24, 2014 This is what I was thinking too, Mark. With the ship staying longer in port at night to accommodate the concert, some things on the ship may not be open like the casino and gift shops. We were on the Fascination 9/27 which was a Styx concert cruise and we arrived in Nassau Monday at 8:00 am and departed at 12:00 am (you had to be back on board at 11:00 pm). The concert was at 9:30 pm. In another thread, someone had written that it was "open seating" for dining that night but that wasn't true--we had our regular assigned dining time and table. While we were docked in Nassau, the Casino opened at 7:00 pm, and the Fun Shops opened 5:30 - 11:30 pm, the pool and hot tubs were open 8:00 am - 12:00 am., Karaoke was 7:00-8:00 & 10:15 pm, and Superstar Live at 8:15pm - 10:00 pm in the Lounge. So there was a lot going on that night on the ship!

bing2 Posted October 24, 2014 #19 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Saw Styx again just a few months ago at ACL live in Austin. They look and sound fantastic! Tommy Shaw was outstanding. Highly recommend for "old" and new fans alike.
