pmjnh Posted October 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2014 HI My hubby has a bad back and on on last cruise (Princess) the ship supplied an egg crate mattress topper, which helped a lot. Does anyone know if Holland America does the same if requested? We will be sailing on the Ryndham. Thanks!
innlady1 Posted October 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2014 I've never heard that HAL has offered toppers but their beds are very comfy so they're not needed. For years I've been hearing how Princess provides them...only because of their reputation of very very uncomfortable beds. Someone with more knowledge than I will weigh in, I'm sure. take us away Posted October 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2014 Also have back issues and was very worried about the HAL beds. We sleep on a sleep number bed at home and I even looked into buying one for the cruises - thankfully did not spend the money! Even after a long cruise, my back felt great! Maybe you will find the same. Also, might be a good idea to call Customer Service and ask about a mattress topper.
laurmac Posted October 31, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2014 They will provide you with a mattress topper on request. Its one of the first things i request from my steward once we board. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
regnig Posted October 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 31, 2014 Having sailed both Princess & HAL trust me HAL's beds are nothing like the "bricks" Princess calls beds. While I believe Princess is changing their bedding I don't believe all ships have been retrofitted. The HAL beds are simply wonderful and I can't see any reason for a topper of any kind. sapper1 Posted October 31, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 31, 2014 We also find HAL beds to be very comfortable.
Daisyloo Posted October 31, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 31, 2014 Princess and Holland America are the two lines we have cruised on. We have found Princess beds to be as hard as rock and we request the mattress toppers. Princess is in the process of changing their mattresses over to more comfortable pillow top mattresses, but it is still hit or miss whether you get one or not. On HAL they have wonderful beds - they call them their "Mariner's Dream Bed". They are great - you won't need a topper for the HAL beds.
B Russo Posted October 31, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 31, 2014 I agree that the beds on HAL are real good. Bill
RuthC Posted October 31, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 31, 2014 Yes, you can get one. No, you won't need one.
senorjim Posted October 31, 2014 #10 Share Posted October 31, 2014 On Zaandam in September we requested and received a mattress topper. This was the first time I felt I needed one and the stewards were very accommodating. Jim Sent from my iPhone using Forums
pmjnh Posted October 31, 2014 Author #11 Share Posted October 31, 2014 Thanks so much for your thoughts. I agree that as much as I loved the Coaral Princess, the bed was hard as a rock. Definitely needed the topper. I will contact customer service and request one just in case, especially for a 14 night cruise! Never been on anything longer than a week. Thanks again! Typhoon1 Posted October 31, 2014 #13 Share Posted October 31, 2014 You shouldn't need any egg crate padding on HAL. Their beds are among the best In the cruise industry. We've sailed Princess, they're beds have to be among the worst.
