Tayscot Posted November 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Having been on Ventura many times we have enjoyed the odd visit to the Beach House in an evening for a bit of a change. Now that P & O have started charging for eating in the Beach House; a per head fee instead of only paying for the 'better' items on the menu, can anyone who has cruised on Ventura recently help out with the following info ? How much is the cover charge and do some items on the menu still incur further charges ? Is the menu the same ? Do you book in advance as per East and White Room or is it still only available by turning up on the night in question ? Has this charging had any effect on the numbers eating in the Beach House as we have always found it to be very popular prior to introducing a charge ? Thank you in anticipation of your replies ! chocolateduck Posted November 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2014 (edited) We tend to book East and the White Room (or any specialist dining) in advance, at Christmas we booked before we boarded. Sorry don't know about the charge for the Beach House. What about Verona on Azura is that going to be chargeable as well? Sorry don't know about the charge for the Beach House. What about Verona on Azura is that going to be chargeable as well? Like you we have tended to book the specialist dining evenings in advance. We have been rather underwhelmed by the White House but absolutely love East; just our preference. What we liked about the Beach House was it was just a little different and a break from the more 'fancy' foods in the other Specialist Dining restaurants. The sizzling platter is our favourite so hopefully it is still on the menu when we are back on Ventura in early December.
Sunshine Boy Posted November 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2014 As far as my recent experience (October) other than 3-4 special meals there is not a cover charge No booking is required turn up and eat subject space However I am not surprised if a cover charge has been introduced as to get a table you very often needed to queue and/ or be given a pager the wait varied from 30mins to 1 1/2 hours From my opinion other than the special dishes Sizzling steak Grilled prawns Freu de mare Sizzling strawberrys Although tasty I would not pay a cover charge, but with it being so busy obviously a way of slowing that and provide a further revenue stream Sent from my iPad using Forums
BrianI Posted November 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Last week on Azura, Verona, the equivalent to Beach House was closed. There were future menus just slightly hidden that showed a cover charge of £5. The steak on lava rocks was an additional £2.50 so that makes it £7.50 total compared to £6.50 previously. I believe the new menus and charges will come into effect this week on the Caribbean sailing and probably the same on Ventura. We will have wait until someone comes back from the first Caribbean cruise to get the full facts Brian
andyecc Posted November 5, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2014 We were on Ventura in August, the cover charge was £5 each. Sounds like they are charging only at high season.
Sunshine Boy Posted November 5, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Unless the menu changes a fair bit in my opinion it would not be worth the additional charge Sent from my iPad using Forums
chocolateduck Posted November 6, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 6, 2014 When on Oriana recently we went to Sorrentos, this had a cover charge of £10 per person , must admit that we did feel a bit cheated as Verona on Azura has and almost identical menu and was free in the summer when we went. Britboys Posted November 6, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 6, 2014 Was that a 7-night or less cruise? I was on Oriana last month for 2 weeks and the charge was £5. We all went as a table one night and thought it was well worth that. There was an additional charge for 'expensive' items like the fillet steak. jake 26 Posted November 9, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 9, 2014 We've just returned from Ventura, and we ate in the Beach House on 2 occasions. There is a cover charge of £5 pp. The menu is quite extensive and some items carry an extra charge such as the lava rock fillet steak which is £2.50, and the king prawns which are around £2.00. However the portions are large and we thought it was great value. You don't have to prebook, its just turn up as before. I think it has had an effect on numbers as we went around 7 - 7.30 on both occasions and got a table immediately.
neilm Posted November 10, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 10, 2014 we have just returned from ventura and used the beach house there was only a minimum charge which was alot cheaper than East and glass house and white room and the meal was excellant east was about £40 for the two of us but was excellent Having been on Ventura many times we have enjoyed the odd visit to the Beach House in an evening for a bit of a change. Rare P&O SUE Posted November 10, 2014 #12 Share Posted November 10, 2014 That's a shame as we enjoyed that option - although preferred the one on Azura to the one on Ventura. I know it's not a huge charge but it all adds up!

The Beach House was our preferred dining option when we were on Ventura and I would willingly pay a small cover charge to avoid eating in the Mdrs. On most nights we had to wait for a table but found the lighter menu and service to our liking, particularly after a long day on a Caribbean beach. On our cruise it was also popular with some officers on formal nights.

We ate in the Beach House 3 times - the atmosphere was good, the service was much more personal than the mdrs, the menu was good and a cover charge of £5 was reasonable. We found it still as popular but I can see that some will be put off by the cover charge rather than going and choosing a no-supplement meal. Menu is the same as before. No pre-booking policy is the same. Personally we would go again and happily pay the supplement. Enjoy!
