ClevelandCruiser27 Posted December 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 2, 2014 I recently booked my first ever balcony cabin on Liberty. Is it possible to get any sun on a balcony or will the cabin above me keep me constantly in the shade?
mark22mac Posted December 2, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 2, 2014 Yes sometimes it just depends on what side of the ship your on. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
ksuds Posted December 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 2, 2014 Depends on where the sun is:) There are times of day that you can tan out there.
cb at sea Posted December 2, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 2, 2014 Each balcony is covered by the deck above, so you will only get sun when it's low in the sky...early morning or late afternoon. The pool deck (and decks above) is where you should tan!

matj2000 Posted December 6, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 6, 2014 (edited) Most of the balcony's are to small and don't have loungers. Princess ships have the best set-up for tanning because the balcony's are tiered out. On one Carnival ship we had a woman tanning a few decks down without her bottoms on. I will see if I can find that photo.... Edited December 6, 2014 by matj2000

aloha of the seas Posted December 7, 2014 #9 Share Posted December 7, 2014 If you have booked a port side balcony on a Southern Caribbean cruise out of Florida, the ship will be heading south at the beginning when the sun rises in the east. Therefore the morning would be the time to be on your balcony. On the way back, the sun is going to rise on the other side of the ship, so you would have to wait until the afternoon to use the balcony. Although most balconies on the side of the ship do not have lounge chairs, they have two chairs and a table, you could try asking your stateroom attendant if he could bring you a lounge chair. Can't hurt to ask. So remember, when picking out a cabin, if you are planning on doing some suntanning on your balcony, think about the cruise itinerary and also consider an aft balcony which is slightly larger and does come with lounge chairs
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted December 7, 2014 #10 Share Posted December 7, 2014 The shade on a balcony often moves position as the sun and the ship move. Even with partial shade you may be able to get a tan just by moving on your balcony to find the sun. I have found that sun on balconies tends to be slanted across the balcony. It is full on only if the ship and sun are in a particular direction. If you don't have a lounger, but are used to a hard surface such as yoga with a mat, just put down a beach towel and lie on that. You can even put a pillow down to add to your comfort. Be aware that there may be prying eyes. Not all balconies are fully private, especially to those above or beside you.
