My Crown experience could have been better.

Captains should never ever be snotty. But many are, in some very expensive gourmet rooms. I believe there were two crew type talent shows.Sounds like you'll have a wonderful cruise.

 

 

What do you mean by expensive gourmet rooms?? How many ship's captains have you encountered?

 

I've had the opportunity to chat a few times with Captains and officers on cruises, as well as attending a private invitation to the bridge. I never found any of them snotty I found them very engaging and interesting. I'm sorry to hear your encounter with the Captain of the Crown Princess was not good.

I don't understand the OP's comment either. Totally agree with your comment. I have met many Capts. on bridge tours, in a bar once and in the MTL and always found them to be engaging and interesting.

Oh my I give up lol we must have special lingo here in Vegas land. A captain not as in ships captain as in restaurant captain here we have in order Matradee (spelling) sommelier, captains,waiters,bus people.

Someone else asked what a Gourmet room was. It is a high end restaurant that would have a captain ;) . I'm sure there are plenty of people who rave and love the food and service on the Crown. I am just not one of them. It's just gonna cost me more money to cruise simple as that.

This may not look like much volume for a dinner but one of the things my wife and I really enjoy about eating in MDR is the fact that the portions are sized so that we can enjoy an appetizer, main course, and desert without getting overly full. Yes, one can have extra if they like and I have actually ordered extra of something (double escargot for instance) but, in the main, it's wonderful to be served a nice sit-down dinner with multiple courses and be able to walk away feeling satisfied but not stuffed.

 

I'd love to have the food pictured above for dinner tonight. :)

 

What is the country of origin for the lobster tail and prawns? USA/Mexico or Asia?

And, for that matter, the fish as well?

Well, the "country of origin" for a lot of it is the ocean. I'm not sure what you're getting at.

 

I try to avoid eating too much seafood sourced from Asia. " Country of origin " like China, India and Vietnam just to name a few. Reason is Mercury and unregulated toxic antibiotics used in aqua culture iof seafood n Asia.

 

Do you eat much seafood? :). So, do you ever wonder why in Supermarkets "county of origin" is identified for seafood?

Well so many of you are critical of the OP. I am sure he/she didn't make up the poop smell and just because someone down the hall didn't smell it, it doesn't mean it didn't exist in the OP's room. That could impact a cruise for me. I would be right on the phone. And as for the Caesar salad, the OP is correct. It is B-A-D. HAL does a fabulous one.

 

However, Princess is my favorite line. I just know what to choose and what to avoid, and how to fix issues by now. OP hasn't cruised for a while and from their perspective, things didn't go well. It's a bit snarky to suggest they travel Crystal. Another mid level line could be very well to their liking. I found HAL to be superior in congeniality. But then again, I don't need staff greeting me by name, all over the ship. It's a bit creepy. But overall, I am now, and think I will always be a Princess lover. And I have had issues on Princess cruises, like spotty toilet functioning for days and cigar smoke pervading my room. Part of the ability to deal with stuff is cruising often. My perpective isn't based on one cruise.

I agree with you, the food on Princess is not very impressive. It has definitely gone downhill in many areas over that last 5 years. We stayed away from Primcess for a couple years and went back recently, hoping that things had improved. The food was worse than we remembered except for specialty

Restaurants However, the entertainment had improved immensely, so for that reason alone we would go back to Princess. We also aren't fans of the Emerald/Crown due to passenger overcrowding.

And OP, try Celebrity sometime. Although they've suffered cutbacks too, the atmosphere is much more refined and elegant and the food is quite superior to

Princess's food.

I had to chuckle at the term captain, in a dining room sense, having

dined at casino restaurants as far back as the 70s, and there was always a "captain"

In a fine establishment. It's been years since I've heard that term :D
