downundermatt Posted December 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2014 Have been shocked at the prices of Cruises to Russa and the Baltic (Talinn/St Petersburg etc) It seems to be almost $350pp for a Balcony Airfares are not an issue but am just wondering if I may pick up a cruise much cheaper around 60 days prior, am not too fussed on the Cabin either. Appreciate any guidance on this
alcpa1 Posted December 23, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2014 Anything is possible but the Baltic cruises sail within a narrow window and demand is always high, thus the prices you are seeing. What cruise lines are you looking at? There are some European based lines that also ply the Baltic and if you speak German or Spanish your horizons can be expanded even further. Good luck. And, start looking at 90 days out not 60. Final payment generally dictates last minute pricing but don't expect much of a discount.
CruiserBruce Posted December 23, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 23, 2014 Just read this similar thread from just down the board: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2140330 It doesn't matter that the poster is asking about Caribbean cruises. THERE IS NO MAGIC TIME.
RickT Posted December 23, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 23, 2014 I've been fortunate enough to do the Baltic twice. As others have said there is no magic date/time. Cruise pricing always depends on a number of things and given the popularity of this destination there is rarely and "low" pricing. That being said, if you are able to get flights on short notice, you will probably find some price drops after final payment. If cost is an issue you may also want to consider an outside cabin rather than a balcony. It is a very port intensive itinerary and we've done it without a balcony with no regrets (we saved $2,000 on a 12 day cruise by booking an ocean view). You might want to input your cruise choices in the Cruise Critic Price Drop link and you'll be e-mailed weekly with any drop in prices. http://www.cruisecritic.com/price-drop/
