roger001 Posted December 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Grand Cayman is a tender port. We've docked once and tendered once there.
Demonyte Posted December 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 29, 2014 We've docked once and tendered once there. Really? I've been there several times in the last five years and always been transferred to the dock with their local tenders. Also every web resource found with a quick Google search say that Grand Cayman is always a tender port. NCL's Accessible Cruising page also says that it is always a tender port (no star at the end of the line): http://www.ncl.com/about/accessible-cruising#taps

I guess what I was remembering was anchoring and then tendering to two different locations. The first time, we were right off shore near downtown. The next time, about 10 miles down the beach and had to take $5 shuttle to town and back. Thanks.
lgonquin Posted December 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 29, 2014 What does GC have to do with the Eastern Carib? Stay on topic :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
roger001 Posted December 29, 2014 #9 Share Posted December 29, 2014 What does GC have to do with the Eastern Carib?Stay on topic :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Wow! I now feel totally ashamed and embarrassed that my knowledge of the Carib is sooo bad.....yea...right. However, as long as I'm causing such chaos, here's a couple of thumb nails of Cayman tender docks (the ones downtown), and shows how close the cruise ships do anchor. The Pearl is in the distance in the one.
LrgPizza Posted December 29, 2014 #10 Share Posted December 29, 2014 For St. Marteen, St, Thomas and Nassau - all ports. NONE of these tender! Good grief. However, I think Tortola does, which is a new Getaway Eastern Caribbean port.
meltingmoments Posted December 29, 2014 #11 Share Posted December 29, 2014 None of these tender!!! Well I thought the Christmas Spirit had well and truly got to me!! :D Couldn't remember tendering at any of those ports in August...and it's not THAT long ago! :)
cliffd64 Posted December 29, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Just off the Getaway in December, and we docked at all ports... St. Maarten, St Thomas, and Nassau.
triptolemus Posted December 29, 2014 #13 Share Posted December 29, 2014 For St. Marteen, St, Thomas and Nassau - all ports. Think he meant "all docks" when saying "all ports" - the nomenclature here tends to refer to "port" as the port city, not the actual port -- being a dock.

cliffd64 Posted January 8, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) Just a reminder... Epic, Getaway, and Breakaway, and eventually Escape, try to avoid tendering due to the larger number of passengers. This is mainly why they only visit ports that can accommodate them easily like St. Thomas, St. Martin, Nassau, and so on... If these ships DO tender it's usually at a port with large numbers of big tender boats like Grand Cayman... Otherwise they would spend way too much time tendering with the ships tiny tenders. Suzyrn89 Posted January 23, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 23, 2015 Tortola is a Dock .....no tender ! Anyone know any updates on the dock in Tortola, seeing posts that it is under construction and RCCL has cancelled it as a port on their E. Caribbean. FinallyGoinOnACruise Posted January 23, 2015 #17 Share Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) I just got back from the Getaway earlier this month and didn't have to tender at any of those 3 ports. We did see another NCL ship in St. Thomas that had to tender. Edited January 23, 2015 by FinallyGoinOnACruise

zqvol Posted March 10, 2015 #19 Share Posted March 10, 2015 While none of those ports is usually a tender port, any of them could be a tender port. I have tender at all three of them on various lines and voyages. I doubt that the port authorities would make a large ship tender it is just a logistic nightmare, but it could happen.
