wrigley80 Posted January 24, 2015 Author #652 Share Posted January 24, 2015 Thank you so much for this review, it brought back many memories! We liked the Dream so much, we took cruises on both itineraries just to cruise again in our first "cove balconies". You wouldn't have done a trip review on the Elation would you? We are taking a cruise with our DD and SIL on March. First time we have gone to New Orleans. We are looking forward to it but apprehensive to go back on a smaller ship after 2 cruises on the Dream and one on the Breeze! Hope to see you on a cruise someday!Pat Oh I would love to cruise in a cove balcony....it is on the my list of cabins to try. I would love to be that close to the water level. Yes I have been on the Elation. It was when the Elation was still in Mobile. And as you can see in my signature our KREWE is going to be cruising on the Elation in December. I enjoy the smaller ships. You will enjoy the Elation :)

And this is one thing that I can't wait to see during Mardi Gras GEAUX SAINTS

wrigley80 Posted January 24, 2015 Author #657 Share Posted January 24, 2015 So after checking out New Orleans for a bit we headed out to hotel in Metairie to get check in. We were staying at the Sleep Inn and Suites. It was nice hotel and we have stayed here previously so it worked for us We decided to stay at the hotel for a little while and relax. I went to get ice for our drinks and while I was gone my dad fell asleep. He was pooped so I let him sleep for a while. I was tired too....I may have taken a nap too
wrigley80 Posted January 24, 2015 Author #658 Share Posted January 24, 2015 So I woke my dad up around 5:00 pm because we were meeting some friends for dinner at the Gordon Biersch Brewery downtown. We met our friends Donna and Kent. They live in New Orleans and we met them last year when we cruised on the Carnival Dream on the repositioning cruise. When I go to New Orleans next month for Mardi Gras I am staying with them for 3 days....I can't wait to see them as well. It definitely pays to have friends in port of call cities :p :) The Gordon Biersch Brewery is connected with Harrahs Casino so you can park in the parking garage for free if you validate your parking. It was very convenient. I didn't realize until after we got back to the hotel that I never got any pics with Donna and Kent. I will have to change that next month during my visit So after we left dinner we drove along the street by the Convention Center and it was all decorated for Christmas

Rare JamesEM Posted January 25, 2015 #665 Share Posted January 25, 2015 Thanks for the review and photos, and yes I was scheduled to be on this cruise, however DW became ill and we became no shows. I love New Orleans. Key West kinda had the same vibe I felt. Love your reviews as always I will be on the Dream again 2-1-15 for Super Bowl :) Was on her 4 times last year, plus the Sunshine and Elation. I don't think I will ever have another year that I take 6 cruises :D

One year before a cruise out of Miami we drove down there for 2 pre-cruise days. And yes you're right Key West is very much comparable to New Orleans. wrigley80 Posted January 26, 2015 Author #674 Share Posted January 26, 2015 It is sad to say but the day has finally come....today is the final day of photos  I know I know it is sad for me too but look on the bright side there will be another review for our cruise on the Carnival Breeze in just 40 days :) We got packed up early and left the hotel. We stopped at the Café DuMonde in Metairie for beignets. My New Orleans friends would tell me that this Café DuMonde is the fake one so I do it just to torment them :p
wrigley80 Posted January 26, 2015 Author #675 Share Posted January 26, 2015 My dad and I were unsure what we wanted to do today. My dad suggested that we go on a Hurricane Katrina tour so that is what we did. We did this tour through Gray Line Tours. It is sad to see this area of New Orleans The new Levee wall that was built after Hurricane Katrina to prevent further catastrophes On the tour they explained to us that first responders would go in and check each home. When the house was checked they would mark an "X" on the outside to let others know that house had been checked. The date the house was checked was also put down and whether or not any survivors or fatalities were found in the home
