Hailzmick Posted January 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2015 I've booked an AFT facing balcony room for my upcoming cruise. A CC friend of mine has booked an AFT wrap around corner AFT balcony. My CC friend can no longer go on the cruise & has offered me his room. How do we go about me getting his room now? He booked thru Royal Caribbean, (USA). I booked thru an Australian travel agent. He hasn't cancelled as yet until I ring RCCI in the morning to find out- but thought I'd throw it out to you clever people to ask?! Many thanks. holden0301 Posted January 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Not positive, but I would think that because you booked through a travel agent the travel agent has to make the change.
griffy116 Posted January 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Travel agent will have to make the change. Once the cabin is cancelled, it's up for grabs, but if you coordinate when your friend cancels and when your travel agent requests the change, it could work. It could also be scooped up. Your friend can't request that they hold the room for you to switch. Chances would be good, but no guarantee.
Starry Eyes Posted January 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) Like the PP, I'm not sure you ringing Royal Caribbean will do much good, as you booked through a TA. Your TA is probably going to have to be involved to get this done. Still, since you have the inside scoop on when this cabin will be released, your odds of snagging it are much higher. If your friend and TA are both willing to work out the timing with you, I'd say that, if possible, your TA should be on the phone with Royal Caribbean as (or as soon as possible after) your friend cancels his reservation. If getting the TA to time the phone call is troublesome (difficult to arrange or unproven reliability etc), then perhaps arrange to have your friend cancel as you are posed on line to place a hold on the desired cabin. You now control both cabin number, so call your TA and ask them to get the corner aft on to your " real" booking. critterchick Posted January 5, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2015 First ask your TA to waitlist you for that cabin. Then see if your friend and the TA can do a 3-way phone call so that the agent can cancel your friend and move you over. Good luck!
Hailzmick Posted January 5, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Thanks everyone! With the time difference in USA & Australia so different- we don't have much of a window. I'll get on to it right now! :-)

Hailzmick Posted January 7, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted January 7, 2015 My travel agent is on to it. Fingers crossed. We should know by this weekend!
sippican Posted January 7, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 7, 2015 We did something similar a few years back. The RC rep. was willing to do a three-way phone call with our TA and the person giving up the cabin. Good luck - those aft wraps are fantastic! Hailzmick Posted January 9, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted January 9, 2015 Our friend cancelled at 5.30pm Florida local time- which was 9.30am local Melbourne time. I waited 30 minutes, (& didn't have any finger nails left by then). I called my TA at 10am who said I had to call RCI. A RCI rep was chatting to me about my wanting to change cabins. He said, "Which room did you want to move to?" I told him the room number & he said, "It's done!" The two best words ever uttered! (Except for "I do", the day I got married!) Whoop whoop! Best 30th birthday present ever!!!!

International policies do vary...
