Wine package question on the royal

We are thinking of buying a wine package on our 1/18 cruise. I have read on another thread that you can purchase wines in the MDR and Horizon Court but not room service (okay with that). Also, it's been said that you cannot purchase a bottle at Vines or at the bars,

What about if you are dining at Sabatinis or Crown Grill or Alfredos.

Can you use the wine package at those venues? Otherwise, it seems pointless.

Hmmm, go to MDR first get a bottle of wine, then head over to the other restaurant. carrying your bottle...doesn't make sense.

Any feedback?

Cant say how Princess does it, but we purchased the wine package from Carnival and when in the Steak House, they let us choose off of that wine menu for something similar in price and quality to the wine package.

DH and I like to have a drink in the Steak House bar on Carnival ships before going to dinner (better selection of both wine and liquor). One night I really enjoyed the glass of wine, so I bought the bottle. They took the bottle down to our table in the MDR, and it was at the table when we arrived. Bartender would not let me carry it, nor would I want to carry a bottle into the MDR. It would of been crass. I am sure they will honor the wine package at any of the dining venues on the Princess ships. Maybe not Vines. We are sailing on Emerald Princess in Feb. so will find out more then. I will be watching this post to see what others say, thanks for aking.

okay, I called princess. The agent put me on hold and checked. She said no to using in bars and Horizon Court but yes to using card in specialty restaurants. I asked about Alfredos but she wasn't sure and I asked about Ocean Terrace and again she was't sure. We'll ask when we board and probably get a different answer.

It's good that you can use it at the other pay restaurants but would be better if you can also use at Alfredos, Vines and Ocean Terrace. I can't quite figure out the princess reasoning for this.

It may not be something that Princess suggests as a place to use your Wine Package but I certainly have used it in Horizon Court at least for Dinner. I would try it if this is where you want to use it.

We were on the Royal in July and purchased the wine package. This was our experience:

The wines can be purchased in the Main Dining Room.

We also purchased wine one evening when we ate in the Crab Shack (Horizon Court) however, they only had the lower end wines available in Horizon Court---not the more expensive ones (or at least the ones that we ordered).

Not available at Vines or at the bars.

Available at Alfredo's.

Available at the Specialty Restaurants.

Didn't check at the Ocean Terrace.

Not available through room service.

We found that the biggest inconvenience was trying to purchase wine to take back to your room. During the day when the dining rooms are not open we found it very difficult to find a place to purchase wine. As a result, we ended up purchasing an extra bottle at dinner and then making a trip back up to the room with it before going to the shows and/or casino which was a bit of a hassle.

Other than that it was great. We found that we enjoyed much nicer wines with the Gold Package than we would have ordered without the package.

Does anyone know if they offer wine packages. I looked on the Princess website and don't see it with all the other beverage packages. I really enjoyed this on Carnival and Royal Caribbean. I don't need the all inclusive package, but if I could buy a 5 or 7 bottle wine package I would be interested in that.

Thanks
