Why is Bermuda always overnight?

I think its because there is no place else to go besides there and it could be money issue bermuda wants tourism so maybe something to do with a contract between them and cruise lines...and then there are people who don't want a 7 night cruise with just one port day, as for me, I always wonder why cruise lines don't have a Bermuda cruise from Pt. Canaveral as it is only 200 more miles to Bermuda than NY is.

No other place to go on a 7 night cruise from the US mainland so the ship stays there multiple nights.

I have seen Bermuda as a day port of call on repositioning cruises

I am not sure what their reason is, and it could be any of the above reasons including contractual, but Bermuda is one of those places that cannot be properly be appreciated in one day IMO.

Bases5 I was just thinking of 7 night cruises, definitely on longer cruises they do go for the day thanks for bringing that point up.

I don't like spending the night in port (I have done that two years ago) and EVERYTHING on the ship is closed and so was the casino its boring. Not much nightlife either to get to in Bermuda pretty much quiet as a mouse at night time.

we did the Bermuda cruise...2 3/4 days in one port. I'd do it again in a hot minute. absolutely loved Bermuda itself, and the fun of seeing a port of call in a much less frantic and nerve-wracking always-checking-your-watch way. loved it.

I think for me I go on a cruise to be at sea but if I want to see a place I just do land vacations.

My upcoming cruise on the Valor in May docks in Aruba always wanted to go there so we also booked 8 night land vacation in Aruba. :D I do have to tell you cruises are so economical...my balcony cabin is 2100 for two of us where our Aruba airfare cost 1600 for two tickets, hotel will cost 3200 and then there is food very expensive...so I guess a cruise staying a few nights in Bermuda is best.

Ships that overnight in Bermuda are allowed to open their Casino 9:00 PM to 5:00 am

It's been that way since last year. Additionally Royal does a 9 night R/T from NJ that overnights in Bermuda before heading to the Carribean islands.

Way back on my very first Bermuda cruise, they stopped at a couple different ports on the island, but it was kind of silly. The island is so small and very easy to get around. A lot of people on the cruise complained about being required to get back on the ship only to go an incredibly short distance. I imagine passengers have much more flexibility in seeing the island with the overnight stay.

Years ago yes they did Hamilton and St. Georges!

This year HAL will have 7 night cruises from Boston docking 3 nights in Hamilton. This is something only "small" ships can accomplish. Three days is not enough time to see and do everything. I usually get a 3 day unlimited transportation pass. Good for all the ferries and buses. One day I take ferry to St Georges , one day a bus to the aquarium, then another to Horseshoe Beach. Other trips I've rented a motor boat and explored some of the smaller beaches. Bermuda is one of the cleanest and prettiest islands I wish Carnival sailed there more often.

wow. thats a lot of money. I am wondering if you were doing an AI.

We rented a one bedroom from an owner at PlayaLinday for 1100 for a week. We live in PHL but traveled to BWI where flights were 1000 cheaper for 3-- airfare for 3 was 1,000 and our food budget for 3 was 1000.

serene56 no not doing an AI only because Aruba has such wonderful fine dining restaurants I need and want to try. Yemanji, Carte Blanch, Chefs Table, Screaming Eagle, Passions, Madam Janette, Suisse Chalet, Daniels Steak & Chop and Matthews....those are the ones I am planning on eating at but there are so many others I want to try so I had to take some off the list lol. What time of the year did you go? We are going in July basically because my niece is a school teacher and is off during summer months. My brother and sister in law live in NY their airfare is cheaper by $200 p/p and I live in Florida and mine is higher go figure that lol. You had a good airfare there.

We had to choose Marriott Resort and Stellaris hotel because my brother and sister in law along with their adult girls will be staying next door at the Marriot Ocean Club (Marriott time share) just like you did but different place. I do know food will cost us $300 plus a day then add the drinks. :roll eyes:

dhill, if you don't use the casino or want it I don't blame you for wanting more nights in port, as for me, we usually choose the cruises with the most time at sea.

Wonder why Bermuda Cruises do so many overnights just look at a world map.

It is out in the Atlantic all by itself.

That also makes it so unique . Nothing like the Caribbean Islands .

Nobody selling you beads on the beach . A fairly wealthy population .

If you should hit occasional ruff seas crossing the Gulf Stream getting there , you will appreciate the longer stay before the return trip.

Been cruising for many years and Bermuda still remains a favorite cruise of ours on the cruise lines like NCL & X that spend several nights there.
