Beverage Package Gratuities Update: 15% to 18%

We would have to think that you booked and purschased prior to February 1, 2015 then. Sometimes the speed reading course I took back in the '70 ties fails me too!:D

I'm assuming the prior poster was paying as they went, and not a=on a drinks package.

Anyone on a drinks package never pays any further gratuity, however since this poster said he paid 15% not 18% I'm assuming he was a pay-as-go or he bought the package on board and they failed to charge the new gratuity.

Curious as to which ship, and if they can confirm if they arrived package in hand, or acquired on board or pay-as-go....

We sailed the Reflection on Feb 7th. The menues in Bacio and well as the bars all showed 18% gratuity. My husband took spinning classes and an 18% gratuity was added there as well.

The gratuity in the spa went to 18% when Canyon Ranch took over in April.

Hi all,

Effective February 1, 2015 for all sailings beginning on or after February 1, 2015, our beverage gratuity rate will increase from 15% to 18%. This includes all individual drinks and beverage packages (purchased pre-cruise and onboard). Any packages that were purchased prior to February 1, 2015 will still be eligible for the 15% gratuity rate, and no additional gratuities will be assessed.

Thanks for posting this! Always best to know in advance! ;)

Now Curt, slow down ya move to fast, hey, great old song! Okie dokie, back to the thread~~~~~ It dont take a rocket enginer to get that if they sailed on Feb the 1st, they had to of booked and signed up for or 'bought' the pgk well before the drop date. Hence they would only be charged the 15%. There is not much walk up the day of sailing any more, heck, I dont think you can even do it anymore.

I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to understand that they bought individual drinks onboard, so are posting that the price hadn't been updated then even though the announcement said it would be.

LOL Curt -- just one more reason for me to stay out of the spa (Canyon Ranch is too pricey for me). Now, if I could just figure out a reason to stay out of the Casino.....;)

Generally for me the price of non essential travel like cruising and air is rising substantially like other costs.

Our house has deferred all leisure travel due to the increasing hassal, complexity and cost.

If the value for money ratio improves for us we will reconsider.

Charges for luggage and gratuities up 3% are recent examples. I am not receiving equivalent salary increases to offset.

People will react differently to this issue but for us it is another nail in the coffin of leisure travel.

Safe and happy sailing to all

Just to clarify, the increase is 20%.

Yes your right that it's 20% increase on the old 15% rate but as it's an increase on a product you choose to purchase we whom choose to do so are only paying a 3% increase on what we were planning on purchasing in the first place!! [emoji57] to say otherwise is just misleading & imho just trying to stir up a bit of trouble!!

I guess some people get a kick out of winding up people with misleading information... [emoji15]

Not trying anything... take a valium.

When the price increases on anything, gas, taxes, electricity or groceries nobody scores it as a small part of their life expenses, they score it as what it is.

Just the facts ma'me, just the facts.

BTW we cruise at least four weeks a year and don't care about the increase personally, but it is still an increase....

Please tell me if I have this right.

Gratuities are Not included in the Classic Package, but they Are included with Premium Package?

If you are purchasing the beverage package on your own, then the 18% gratuity is not included and it will be tacked on. If you have received the classic package as part of the 1-2-3 promotion, then the 18% is covered by Celebrity. If you decide to upgrade your package from classic to premium, you're responsible for the 18% gratuity, so your cost would be 11.80 per day consisting of the 10.00 cost differential plus the 1.80 gratuity.

  • 3 weeks later...

We sailed the Reflection in Feb. 18% was not limited to the drink packages. The menus in Al Bacio had 18% gratuity printed on the bottom. My husband took spin classes in the gym and was charged an 18% gratuity there as well.

The 18% was added to all F&B outlets and purchases: drinks packages/upgrades, and individual drinks be they alcoholic or non-alcoholic.

The Spa has been charging 18% since Canyon ranch took over from Steiner back in April, 2014
