vbecky Posted February 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2015 Would you recommend booking excursion and use the flying beach chairs or walk around? Have never been and trying to decide?
zqvol Posted February 4, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 4, 2015 Would you recommend booking excursion and use the flying beach chairs or walk around? Have never been and trying to decide? Mahogany Bay is a Carnival built and run, man made shopping and beach area. Not a lot different than staying on the ship. If you want to see Roatan get away from that place, the beaches on the west end of the island are so much nicer that it is a shame to waste a day there. Rare crewsweeper Posted February 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 5, 2015 Would you recommend booking excursion and use the flying beach chairs or walk around? Have never been and trying to decide? Unless you have mobility problems, want to spend $12 to see a view, or need a clamshell lounger and don't want to risk having them all sold out because there are 2 ships in port, then there's really no need to spend the $$$ for the excursion. It's a 5 minute walk at strolling pace. Loungers are free and plentiful, food and drink are available right there. Now granted the "beach" isn't the West Bay/West End type beach, and snorkeling isn't that great due to the silty bottom of the cove, and just being in a cruise port doesn't really qualify as seeing Roatan any more than a change of planes at La Guardia qualifies as seeing NYC, but for a budget minded cruiser, there's no reason not to wonder over, and it is sand between your toes versus a hot deck. And you can atleast get a taste of the local Honduran beers and some semblance of "island" food.

caribsun Posted February 11, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) Does anyone know if Norwegian cruise passengers can use Mahogany Bay? Not sure, have never seen NCL beach towels there.:D You will need to hire a cab to get to MB so you may as well go to the nicer beaches in the West Bay.:) Edited February 11, 2015 by caribsun
BrotherCraig Posted February 12, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 12, 2015 NCL uses Coxen Hole. Montego Bay is much nicer but you should head to West Bay. Beautiful.

Rare mitsugirly Posted February 14, 2015 #8 Share Posted February 14, 2015 No NCL does NOT dock there. They dock at Coxen Hole. Plus, you can not even get into Mahogany to use if you aren't docked there (so no need to take a cab there). If you're not on that ship docked there, no getting in. You have to show them your key card for entry. ;)
BigB0882 Posted February 14, 2015 #9 Share Posted February 14, 2015 NCL uses Coxen Hole. Montego Bay is much nicer but you should head to West Bay. Beautiful. How long a cab ride (and about how much $$) to get to West Bay. It looks beautiful. We were planning on doing Little French Key but all I really want is a beautiful beach to go relax on and the pictures of West Bay are gorgeous. Any particular beach to go to or is it all public beach area?
zqvol Posted February 14, 2015 #10 Share Posted February 14, 2015 Does anyone know if Norwegian cruise passengers can use Mahogany Bay? No it is reserved for passengers from ships that dock there. NCL docks at Coxen Hole, whihc is a much better location IMO.
