Rare Manbo Posted February 7, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2015 How do the servers get their tips? based on the drink prices? are the drinks free but is there a charge for gratuities? thanks!
Guindalf Posted February 7, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) The gratuity is added to the check but you don't pay. The UBP includes the 15%. You will be presented with a bill to sign, but it will not be charged to your account (apart from taxes in some circumstances). However, you can add an additional tip if you wish, which will be added to your room charges. We never did, though, so it's nothing you need to worry about. LrgPizza Posted February 7, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2015 This is the 3rd time I've answered this today, since everyone seems to be asking the exact same questions over and over again. When you purchase a drink with UBP, it works the same as if you don't have UBP. A slip is printed, and you are signing for the drink total with 15% automatically added on for gratuity. The server/bartender rings it through, and NCL keeps track of who is ringing through how many. What you spend on drinks is zeroed out at the end of the day if you have UBP. If you don't have UBP, then it isn't. Nothing is different on the end of the servers/bartenders. They are doing the same thing. Yes, you can add extra gratuity or hand them cash if you want to tip beyond the 15%.

Are you saying that you sign a slip that shows a total charge (amount due) and is not zeroed out on the slip itself? When you have the UDP the slip you sign shows zero amount t due and never shows on your account.

You would think with today's technology and their push for saving eco system they would be able to at least make the ultimate plans paper free. Is there a charge (taxes) while in a US port such as embarkation day? How does that work?
Guindalf Posted February 9, 2015 #10 Share Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) The amount of the tax is added to your shipboard account and is applied when the ship is in state coastal waters. I believe this also applies to some European destinations too. Edited February 9, 2015 by Guindalf
