Rare hmorrow Posted February 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2015 Hi Can anyone tell me if you can buy soap in the self service laundry on the Volendam, or if I should bring my own.' Thanks, Helaine
oofroggie Posted February 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2015 Soap is provided free and is the only soap to be used.
Luna Posted February 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2015 Once you put your money in the machine to start it, you push the "soap" button and soap will be dispensed into your wash.

Himself Posted February 13, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 13, 2015 I wish they had self serve on all the HAL ships. Only the Explorer class, the "S" Class and the "R" class have self serve laundries. The Vista and Signature class do not have them.
Rare Vict0riann Posted February 13, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 13, 2015 Once you put your money in the machine to start it, you push the "soap" button and soap will be dispensed into your wash. And, only push the button once, or you will have to do some extra rinsing!:)

WisRiver Posted February 13, 2015 #8 Share Posted February 13, 2015 In HAL's self service laundries they provide the soap. We bring dryer sheets. On the Prinsendam in October, 2014 I saw several people adding their own fabric softener.
jt58203 Posted March 4, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 4, 2015 1) Is the laundry soap hypoallergenic? 2) Hubby is extra sensitive to detergents, do the machines have an extra rinse cycle? 3) How many machines are typically in the laundry room? take us away Posted March 4, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 4, 2015 1) Is the laundry soap hypoallergenic? 2) Hubby is extra sensitive to detergents, do the machines have an extra rinse cycle? 3) How many machines are typically in the laundry room? 1) cannot say but if he has a problem, contact ship's services as have seen a lady bring her own soap with HAL's permission due to allergies 2) if you bring your own soap, should not be an issue but have not seen a specific rinse cycle but it has been a while. 3) Some ships have 3-4 some a few more. There are typically more than 1 laundry room on each ship so check each one. Have found that there are fewer people doing laundry over the dinner times (had table mates who would leave after early seating and go to do their laundry) or early in the morning. We have met some wonderful people waiting for our laundry! Don't forget your dryer sheets - and enjoy your cruise.
CowPrincess Posted March 4, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 4, 2015 And, only push the button once, or you will have to do some extra rinsing!:) A corollary to that might be "push the button or you'll need to re-do the laundry". ;) (voice of experience on both here :D )
Rare rafinmd Posted March 4, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 4, 2015 I'm not sure if the Volendam (R-Class) is the same, but on the S class ships there are 3 machines on the Main Deck, 5 on the Lower Promenade, and 4 on the Verandah deck. Roy
WupperAV Posted March 6, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 6, 2015 (edited) We have carried our own laundry soap for years and they approve of it because it's environmentally, save, unscented and non foaming which they really don't want in their recycling system. Laundry sheets are bad for the environment, filling the landfills so we don't use them. Edited March 6, 2015 by WupperAV
RMLincoln Posted March 6, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 6, 2015 On Maasdam the laundry soap dispenser is on the wall and there is cup there; dispense one dose into the cup and add it to the washer. It is not automatically added to the washing machine. The washers I've seen are not adjustable by the user, such as to do an extra rinse cycle, or at least I didn't see any way to do it. And yes, I've had some good friendships start out as laundry-mates! m--
pmjnh Posted March 6, 2015 #15 Share Posted March 6, 2015 Do the washing machines on the Ryndam have complimentary soap as well?

I have a feeling taking a cruise has a much larger impact on the environment than one or two laundry sheets ;)
