Liltx31 Posted February 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2015 Just wondering if the fillet and Maine lobster are good? DH hates steak so going to the specialty rest. is a waste but I do enjoy a good steak and would pay the $20 in the MDR.
Rare Clearwater Posted February 18, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2015 I thought so! I was on the Paradise a few months ago and upgraded twice. It was fantastic. I am heading back on the Paradise in April and will plan to do it again. It's a quick cruise and an older ship without a steakhouse so it was fun to splurge with casino winnings. Rena921 Posted February 18, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2015 If you are on a ship with a steakhouse, I would pay the full $35.00 per person and eat in there. I'm sure the upsell meal option is good, but for $15.00 more pp, you will get the entire dining experience. The steakhouse ambiance and food are fantastic and IMO, worth every penny. For us no, it would be $70 plus a tip (we always tip extra). DH doesn't like steak or sitting for too long, MDR is about as long as he can take. Glad to hear the $20 fillet is a good option. I like a good steak. Thanks!
ccruisequeen Posted February 18, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2015 I got the surf and turf on the imagination last month. The lobster was delicious. My medium fillet was a little over cooked.
ahoys Posted February 18, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 18, 2015 We had the upsell filet mignon in the MDR on the Pride in November. It was delicious and well worth the extra charge.
nwo4life Posted February 18, 2015 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2015 We have never found the Steakhouse to take longer than a MDR meal. In fact we love the Steakhouse, but have stopped going to the MDR due to how long the meal lasts.
CHOPPERTESTER Posted February 18, 2015 #8 Share Posted February 18, 2015 Upsell lobster in the MDR for $20 is larger than the usual "elegant night" canner size, and you get two large claws vice one large and one small claw, but not the lobstersaurus size they roll out on the sample plate to get you to book the Steakhouse. Even in the Steakhouse the Surf & Turf is only a half of the lobster tail you get in the MDR on "elegant night".
wareaglefan Posted February 19, 2015 #9 Share Posted February 19, 2015 We have quit going to the MDR too. Love the Lido buffet. No waiting, wonderful salad bar and always a carving station.
jenne252 Posted February 19, 2015 #10 Share Posted February 19, 2015 Just as an added note, the Steakhouse doesn't just serve steak if I remember correctly. There are seafood options also I believe. You can view the menu online
jenne252 Posted February 19, 2015 #11 Share Posted February 19, 2015 I just checked the latest menu and there is lobster, chicken, seafood ravioli, lamb chops and fish in addition to several beef options
lovestocruise19 Posted February 19, 2015 #12 Share Posted February 19, 2015 Just wondering if the fillet and Maine lobster are good? DH hates steak so going to the specialty rest. is a waste but I do enjoy a good steak and would pay the $20 in the MDR. DH recently did the $20 upcharge in the MDR and got a NY Sirloin. He said it was one of the best he's had and worth the upcharge. I don't eat steak or fish, so I was happy he was able to experience the steak without having us spend $70 for me to just eat chicken in the steakhouse. Here's a pic! paulypride Posted February 19, 2015 #13 Share Posted February 19, 2015 Just off the Fascination and we had the NY Strip - quite delicious and my husband had the filet which he said was fantastic. So as much as we like the steakhouse when no steakhouse is available or its not what you want to do, this is a great alternative.
Liltx31 Posted February 19, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted February 19, 2015 Thank you so much! It's great to hear I can have a nice steak in the MDR. I love meat and red wine. I understand that many of you would choose the specialty rest. We just don't do those anymore. So it's great to have another option.

pamrose228 Posted February 19, 2015 #20 Share Posted February 19, 2015 can you pick any of the steaks off the menu or are you limited for the $20.00 There are four choices from the upsell. I have had the whole Maine lobster and it was terrific around 1 1/2 pounds. DH had the NY strip and he said there was too much grizzle. I tasted it was soft as butter and delicious. FlorenceItaly Posted February 19, 2015 #21 Share Posted February 19, 2015 That looks like a ribeye, which is our preference to a sirloin. Thanks for the pic.
falkcor Posted February 19, 2015 #22 Share Posted February 19, 2015 can you pick any of the steaks off the menu or are you limited for the $20.00 the options are a 1-1/2 lb steamed whole lobster, surf & turf, 9 oz filet mignon and 14 oz ny strip steak. they swap out the lobster for lamb on the first elegant night. here's a sample menu: http://www.carnival.com/~/media/Images/explore/dining/menus/dining-room-steakhouse-selections.ashx
pamrose228 Posted February 19, 2015 #23 Share Posted February 19, 2015 When I was on the Ecstasyin October there was a fourth option. Some nights it was ribeye some nights a larger filet mignon.
cruiselover** Posted February 19, 2015 #24 Share Posted February 19, 2015 I am looking forward to trying at least one of the steakhouse entrees in the MDR on my next cruise. I have a question about the surf and turf. Does anyone know what size the filet mignon is that comes with the lobster tail?
Avril Posted February 19, 2015 #25 Share Posted February 19, 2015 This sounds like an excellent, yummy (and cheaper) alternative to going to the Steakhouse!! :D One question, will they have this option in the MDR on the Vista (for now, my next Carnival cruise) or is it only on ships that don't have a Steakhouse? Thanks!!
