Rare mitsugirly Posted February 25, 2015 #126 Share Posted February 25, 2015 Hey mitsugirly I've read your reviews do you plan on doing a review on the pride? We will be on the Pride in 95 days!!! Either way, enjoy your trip! ABSOLUTELY!!! I can't wait. :D
Rare alrichards4003 Posted February 25, 2015 Author #127 Share Posted February 25, 2015 Wait, what is this? I haven't heard of the brunch. When and where is it served? Everything looked WONDERFUL...and cheesecake? WOW I don't want to miss this. BTW we will be on the Pride in 38 days, 14 hours, 1 min and 21 seconds, but who's counting. (We will be doing Baltimore to Caribbean). So following this thread with a lot of interest. :D On Sea Days they have the sea day brunch, it typically runs from 8:30- 1:30 continuously. It is held in one of the dining rooms. There is no charge for this. With only 2 official sea days, there were items I did not get to try.
Rare alrichards4003 Posted February 25, 2015 Author #128 Share Posted February 25, 2015 We were supposed to swim with the sharks and stingrays. Our excursion was at 9:30 and we were supposed to meet at 9. I was getting ready to get a breakfast burrito, then a few minutes before 8, the captain came over the loud speaker and announced due to the high winds we would not be docking at Belize and would be having a sea day instead. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr Since there was no rush and they said a revised schedule would not be ready for a few hours. I went to have breakfast in the dining room. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr Eggs Benedict with hash browns. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr

I was surprised how many seasoned cruisers overlooked this until they saw us going in. It's listed on the daily schedule, but easy to miss unless you're looking for it, I guess. Well worth it to put it in your daily planning.:) Kathy
Rare alrichards4003 Posted February 25, 2015 Author #130 Share Posted February 25, 2015 After breakfast, walking through lobby and guest services desk was busy and a lot of staff were talking to people. I was surprised with the number of people arguing that there was no reason the ship could not dock. As if some complaints were going to change the decision. The shore excursions and port fees were refunded. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr

Tea, miniature sandwiches, cakes, etc. A great way to spend some time in the afternoon.

Or can you still order breakfast from the menu? Is the brunch something that you order from a menu or do they have items sitting out, like the buffet, that you just pick what you want? Sorry, just trying to understand.
beamqueen Posted February 25, 2015 #133 Share Posted February 25, 2015 Mitsugirly-- brunch is in place of breakfast in the MDR. They have breakfast/lunch items on the menu and you can order either. It's a sit down meal. The menu will be the same for all sea days.

Usually It has many breakfast if not all and then some "heavier"items that are more "lunchy" . We enjoy it

Mitsugirly, as the above posters have noted, the brunch is in the MDR only on sea days and includes breakfast, lunch, and dessert selections. Here is the menu: http://www.zydecocruiser.net/menus/CarnivalCruiseLineSeaDayBrunch.htm Everything I've had during the brunch over multiple sailings has been great! Definitely save room for dessert though ... both the caramelized cheesecake and banana cream pie are AMAZING.
tandemcruzr Posted February 25, 2015 #137 Share Posted February 25, 2015 Just an FYI for those who may not know -- Belize is a tender port, not a docking port. If the water is rough, transferring from the ship to the tender is not safe.

I have been to Belize several times and those tender boats are not what I would refer to as "state of the art" that is one reason why I was surprised when people were complaining about not getting off with 56MPH winds. Rare alrichards4003 Posted February 26, 2015 Author #140 Share Posted February 26, 2015 I went up to Serenity before 11 and there were no seats available, I went up there a few times and never found a chair. It is a nice area with a pool and hot tub, but the seating is limited, but I don't think the size of the ship would allow for more. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr You can see the slides including the green thunder and their proximity to Serenity image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr
Rare alrichards4003 Posted February 26, 2015 Author #141 Share Posted February 26, 2015 Had lunch at the buffet, it was "french" day. My husband said the food on the buffet looked good, more so than other buffets he had seen on other ships. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr At 2 they had 10 (wow) games of Bingo, all for $20. I won the first game and got $100, woo-hoo. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr I had ordered a pastry tray and cheese tray from Bon Voyage but waited until the second half of the cruise to have them delivered. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr We skipped the past guest party as they had an art auction during that same time. Rare alrichards4003 Posted February 26, 2015 Author #143 Share Posted February 26, 2015 As I mentioned before the piano player was supposed to get off the ship in Belize and a new one would get on. Since that did not happen the revised schedule did not have a piano player on the schedule, so we did not go, but found out later that the other one on board did play. We spent the night in the casino and listening to music and went to bed earlier, tomorrow was Costa Mayo. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr
Rare alrichards4003 Posted February 26, 2015 Author #144 Share Posted February 26, 2015 My husband's favorite place in the Western Caribbean is Maya Chan in Costa Maya. When I got up, I looked at the balcony and saw land. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr I went to grab my breakfast burrito and coffee. I thought there would be no reason to bring the camera. I was wrong, the lido deck was full of towel animals. In the elevator back to the room to get my ipad, people were headed to the gangway. After pictures I had coffee and applied sunscreen on the balcony. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr They announced to not go to the gangway. I sat on the balcony and watched the boat talk to the ship, they sailed off and said "see you next week". image by alrichards4003, on Flickr

Rare alrichards4003 Posted February 26, 2015 Author #147 Share Posted February 26, 2015 A few minutes before 9 the CD came on to announce due to our berth position we were unable to dock, even though other ships were able to. He said they were exploring the options. But with the speed we were leaving, I felt like it would not be in Costa Maya. I later had a pedicure and the technician told me her friend was on Liberty and said she watched the problems our ship was having docking. She also said that due to the size the pride had more problems sustaining the high waves than a large ship like Liberty. It was around 10:30 when they announced we would be going to Cozumel from 3-9. After a while the CD came on and said we would be getting a 25% discount on a future cruise. On to Cozumel. I told my husband that after 16 cruises these were the only 2 ports we had ever missed, we were pretty lucky.

Thank you for your great review - not going on Pride for quite awhile, but reading your review is helping me to get through this cold winter. Do you know or remember if they allowed kids into the serenity area to get their parents? Just wondering if my 10 and 13 year old will be able to reach my wife and I if we are in the area. I went to grab my breakfast burrito and coffee. I thought there would be no reason to bring the camera. I was wrong, the lido deck was full of towel animals. Do you remember which day they did the towel animal display and how long they left it up? My kids are late sleepers, but I know this is something they are going to want to see. Crusin Karen Posted February 27, 2015 #150 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Just found your review and read it all at once! We will be on a B2B on the Pride in May. Only spirit class ship we have not been on and we are super excited, and especially more now after seeing your pictures and reading your review. We usually sail from our home port in NY, but we have sailed Splendor 3x and want to try something new,so we will drive to Baltimore. My buddy Jamman will be on Pride in April, I'll be on her in May and an "old friend" Kat/Kath in June! Hey, guys, someday we should sail together! :cool:Thanks for sharing your cruise with us. The towel animals are a HOOT. What a great job they did! :):):)
