cruiser fanatic Posted March 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 6, 2015 (edited) DD and I have reservations for the Chef's table. What is the appropriate tip? I never tip at the Chef's table. I have never seen or heard of anyone else tipping either. Edited March 6, 2015 by cruiser fanatic
Rare jimbo5544 Posted March 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2015 (edited) We do tip. We (actually I, the wife taste are not so eclectic) have done 5 Chef's Tables on Carnival and one on Royal. Tips go directly to the wait staff that serves you. I have tipped $15 bringing the total on the bill to $90, can't fathom what appropriate is........ Maleeni Posted March 6, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2015 DD and I have reservations for the Chef's table. What is the appropriate tip? As indicated, tip is already included. No need to tip twice.

Wilgr Posted March 6, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 6, 2015 I have read on the description of the price that tip is included, I still tip an additional $10 PP.

I have read on the description of the price that tip is included, I still tip an additional $10 PP. Can you post a link that indicates that tip is included? Here is one document that shows the cost but doesn't indicate tip is included. I'm just curious to see any documentation on this as I never knew. I do usually tip an extra amount. ETA - maybe this is noted on the final bill when attending the Chef's Table, similar to the steakhouse receipt??? I'll have to look at my previous cruise receipts. love my grandkids Posted March 6, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 6, 2015 Steakhouse charge includes tip but doesnt say how much of a tip is included. Suspect the same for chefs table. We are doing it for the first time in a few weeks and will tip or not based on the experience.
LilMissScareAll Posted March 6, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 6, 2015 Im 99% sure that Tip was included. But I think we tipped an additional $20. I believe it shows on the 'bill' you get at the end of the meal. I think I have it at home in the bag of honeymoon souvenirs that someday I'll get around to scrapbooking.... The service we received was more than worth it.
Wilgr Posted March 6, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 6, 2015 Type in "Chefs table gratuity" in the little "search cruise critic" box at the top of the page.
travler27 Posted March 6, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 6, 2015 Tip is included in the $75 charge but I always tip it up to $100 per person. I'm just an over tipper I suppose but I bet the extra $25 means a lot more to the wait staff than it does to me.
Kobayashi Posted March 6, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 6, 2015 Type in "Chefs table gratuity" in the little "search cruise critic" box at the top of the page. FYI - that just shows discussion topics on Cruise Critic rather than a link to Carnival Document or other credible sources indicating tips were included in the $75 bill. I thought everything read on Cruise Critic was from a "reputable source". LOL
travler27 Posted March 6, 2015 #15 Share Posted March 6, 2015 You're hearing from several folks who have actually eaten at the Chef's table on numerous occasions. I would consider that reputable. If you just have to see it on Carnival's web site then you should look there instead of here.

lisajm Posted March 6, 2015 Author #17 Share Posted March 6, 2015 My DD worked her way through college in the restaurant industry, so I appreciate those that work very hard for tips. I truly wasn't worried if tips were included. Excited about this fine dining experience and just wanted to know what others have done.:)
quickrate Posted March 7, 2015 #18 Share Posted March 7, 2015 We have been to Chef's table 4 times and I don't remember anywhere it indicates on the bill that the tip is included. We always tip at Chef's Table. Pat

LilMissScareAll Posted March 7, 2015 #20 Share Posted March 7, 2015 Ok. So I went and dug up the receipt and I guess it doesn't say that a gratuity is included. Just a line for optional gratuity.
caribnsnrklr Posted March 7, 2015 #21 Share Posted March 7, 2015 We've done the chefs table three times now and have always given 20.00 tip each person. We also tip 10.00 each at steakhouse. We feel the service is good and they deserve a tip but we are also tippers.
shipty2 Posted March 7, 2015 #22 Share Posted March 7, 2015 We attended the Chef's Table experience a few months ago and every single person there tipped the staff-in varying amounts of course at their discretion.
Rare jimbo5544 Posted March 7, 2015 #23 Share Posted March 7, 2015 Ditto from me. I don't believe that the tip is included. We've done it 4 times on 4 different ships and this is the first time to ever hear someone say it's included. Regardless of what is posted here, we will tip as well. I was told by a hotel manager that it all goes to the server(s) and was appreciated and customary.
tigercat Posted March 7, 2015 #24 Share Posted March 7, 2015 I asked Carnival and was told that yes the tip is included but that you could tip more if you thought the meal was worth it. tigercat
