Transport: Freemantle to Perth Airport

Recommended Posts

A taxi is the best way to the airport from freo and will cost around $60, but you will get to the airport at 9am or there abouts. It really depends on your luggage, if you don't mind dragging it around. I would suggest staying in Freo and looking around and having lunch and then heading to the airport, or catch a ferry up the swan river to Perth CBD and then a bit of a lunch. Or a mixture of both. Once in Perth CBD there is a bus to the airport, but a cab may be easier. Another option is to take a ship's sight seeing tour that gets you to the airport as well.:D

train station very close to where ship docks very cost effective gets you into Perth cbd fast way to get into Perth, then taxi to airport not sure if they have lockers at train station maybe leave luggage and have a look around the city before your flight

Big issue is what to do with your luggage.

If you are OK dragging it around have a look around Freeo, Ferry to Perth then bus/taxi to airport, if not look at ships tour that drops at airport.

How far is Perth Airport from the dock? How much should we expect to pay for a taxi?

We have lots of time... 3pm flight. Is there a bus service?

Thanks

You don't say whether your flight is internal or International - they are two separate airports - and you don't say how much luggage you have. If you are International - you need to be there around 1.00pm. So you only have a couple of hours. You wouldn't be able to get your luggage on the train until after 9.00am if it is a weekday - due to "rush hour". If you were to decide on the train and go into Perth Station, here is a link to the storage lockers - or Citplace - which is in the train station. You could stroll around Perth for a couple of hours, or even jump the free CAT bus to Perth Mint - it is not ten minutes away. You would then have to get a taxi to the airport - domestic or International from the train station. No direct bus service to the airports.

You could email the contact on the link - and ask lots of questions.

Hope this helps. Your alternative is to drag your feet on the ship - and get a direct taxi to the airport.

Look at "Services include: " and it shows locker hire. Emailing these guys would be your best option.

Our flight is domestic to Sydney. although we only travel with a 20 inch roller each, DW had a recent back problem and can roll but not lift the case.

You should be good then to do the train - but after 9.00 - you'll get a seat anyway - it being the train terminal at Fremantle. Takes about 30 - 35 minutes on the train. Bit of a bumpy drag from the passenger terminal to the train station. No hassle though. There are escalators in Perth Train Station up to City Place. on the first concourse. (All looking good so far :) ) on that link I attached for you - it gives locker sizes - so size your luggage up - and you should be good to go. From the first concourse - you can walk into Northbridge - the Museum is there - and a few other bits and bobs. You would be able to pick up a map and other info at the information kiosk. Perth Train Station is not massive - so you won't get lost. Out one side- Northbridge. Out the other - Forrest Place. What ever you decide to do - you will still need the taxi to the airport. On the generous side - allow 30 - 40 minutes to get to the airport. (probably a 20 minute ride - but err on the side of caution )

You'll get a taxi right outside the train station, and as you aren't going through the city to get to the airport - you should have a pleasant run out

Knowing all about crook backs, I'd go ships tour, they.ll lift his bag on and off.

I've got a back they won't operate on and with luggage that's what I'd do.

That is probably the best option with a bad back. If you are being transported early- then Perth airport is not the place to be hanging around for a few hours - Domestic Airport is far superior to Terminal 2 (some domestic flights go from Terminal 2) - and it also depends if the OP wants to have a little wander around. Nothing nicer than having options :p Then with options come decisions

  • 4 weeks later...

An update. We disembarked Voyager of the Seas this week (one of our worst cruises). We had intended to take a cab to the airport. We had lots of time for our 3pm flight. We each travel with one 20 inch roll on.

The RCI transfer fee was $60 each. We passed on this. When we disembarked that taxi line up was incredible..more than one hour wait. It was managed by RCI folk and it was completely disorganized. We suffered the same on our previous Sun Princess Sydney disembarkation at Whites Bay....waited 80 minutes in line for a cab. They were very, very disorganized and slow.

not wanting to repeat this, we spoke to a limo driver. His advice...take our bags over the tracks and get a can on the road or at the train station. We went to the train stations. Ended up with a $5 fare each to the airport via train to downtown Perth and bus to the airport. Our carry on made this a snap and we had a brief glimpse of Perth...very nice city.

My advice to others...pre arrange a limo (same price for two as a RCI transfer), forget the taxi as it is not worth the wait especially if youi have a tight schedule

Thanks for posting - sorry to hear you had a bad cruise - but you did ok with the train and bus. Our cab system is an embarrassment - Government controlled - says it all. Again, thanks for posting on your return.
