Rare Clay Clayton Posted March 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2015 (edited) DH and I are considering a river cruise aboard Viking's Bestla, one of their newer longboats. I am 6'-7" tall so am a little concerned about headroom and feeling clostrophobic. Ocean cruise stateroom ceilings are (as I recall) 7'-6" high. Does anyone know if the ceilings on longboats are similar? Lower! Also, is there a ceiling height difference between the different decks? We are considering a standard stateroom which puts us on the lowest deck...wonder if ceiling is lower....or hoping it might be higher:D Thanks in advance for any advice! Rare Clay Clayton Posted March 14, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted March 14, 2015 Thanks! Unfortunately the article says they found out when in fact they only surmised based on a quote about a chandelier. Lol Hopefully some one will have info on Viking. tomhigh Posted March 15, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 15, 2015 I'm 6'5" and I don't recall ever having to duck when I was on one of the Longships.
Rare Clay Clayton Posted March 15, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted March 15, 2015 I'm 6'5" and I don't recall ever having to duck when I was on one of the Longships. Thanks....did you notice the ceiling more than you do on an ocean ship?
tomhigh Posted March 16, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 16, 2015 Sorry, my only ocean experience in on an old Navy cruiser. I used to wack my head at least once a day on that thing due to stuff hanging from the overhead.
Rare Clay Clayton Posted March 16, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted March 16, 2015 Thanks anyway. I'm less worried about winking my head, more about feeling claustrophobic.
Rare Clay Clayton Posted March 20, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted March 20, 2015 Got an email from Viking in response to my question. They stare that stateroom ceilings are 6'-10".
stretchcruz Posted March 21, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 21, 2015 (edited) Try emailing Ralph Grizzle, he is one of Avid Cruiser's associates and he is 6 foot 5. He has done lots of articles and river cruises as well. Aaron and Ralph answer emails very promptly. I am only 6 feet tall but never had a problem on Avalon, nor even thought about it. pilgrimduke Posted March 21, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 21, 2015 I'm the height of the original poster and I have a slight touch of claustrophobia. That being said, when I was on a Viking longship last summer, I didn't have any trouble with that aspect of the cruise. (I know this is a personal thing and I hope that my experience will be similar to yours.)

Rare Got2Cruise Posted March 22, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 22, 2015 What are the ceiling heights on ocean ships? I really didn't notice a difference between an ocean cabin and river cruise ship cabin, but we are not tall people so it wouldn't matter.
Rare Clay Clayton Posted March 27, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted March 27, 2015 I am not sure but I think they are likely to be 7'-6". I know I have no trouble with touching the ceiling and my reach is about 8'-6". I intend to find out in a couple of weeks! :D
