gold1953 Posted March 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2015 We took the same cruise in Jan. and my sister will be on your cruise. We did the ship's snorkeling tour and it was amazing. You leave straight from the ship so you don't have to deal with tendering. It is a tendering port and quite a long ride to Belize. Those with ship tours get the first tenders which shortens the time in Belize if you take a private tour... so if you do you need to book a later tour time. jsf Posted March 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2015 We were in Belize a couple of years ago and we hired a taxi driver who gave us a tour for about 3 hrs and we ended up at a nice resort and marina for a short visit. The island itself is not real developed we had to go through check points along the road with armed soldiers. The driver told us this was to keep drugs out. Many people do not know that this place used to be called British Honduras, as I said this was about 4 years ago and we never felt at risk. Hope you have a great time. J. Bruin Steve Posted March 14, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2015 We did a shore excursion through the cruise line--to Lamanai... Thought it was pretty cool, as shorexes go... Pretty impressive Mayan ruins...and the trip to get there was by speed boat up a river...beats going anywhere on a bus... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamanai Apparently, it can be done with a private tour as well: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g291967-d2160015-Reviews-Lamanai_Mayan_Site_and_New_River_Tour-Belize_District.html http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g291968-d5452919-Reviews-Lamanai_Belize_Tours-Belize_City_Belize_District.html http://www.belizecruiseexcursions.com/lamanai_belize.htm

Thanks Tina We stopped in Belize a few years ago. We've done enough snorkel/catamaran rides to last a lifetime, so we did an airboat ride through a mangrove swamp. (booked through the ship) Aside from the fact that the restrooms stunk to high heaven, we really enjoyed it. And the boat created enough breeze that we didn't swelter in the heat. Thanks Tina Hi - have you looked at the Belize board? We found a lot of helpful information on the Port of Call Board for the Cozumel stop. chief joe Posted March 15, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 15, 2015 Since this is first time would definitely suggest one of the mayan ruins trips the one up the river is fun see monkey's in trees. The one to xunantunich does take a while on bus but you do see a lot of the country side and ruins are great. You stop on the way back for local food lunch. hawk/hornfan Posted March 16, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) I highly recommend the tour to Xunantunich if it is offered. It is a long day but enriching. If you climb to the top of "El Castillo" temple @136' (40m) you can see in to Guatemala. It is breathtaking. The lunch on the return trip was very good. crusingnut Posted March 16, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 16, 2015 If you're looking for something with a little more adventure. When we were in Belize some years ago we did a private tour to cave tubing. It is to this day still one of the best excursions we have taken.
