ETinCA Posted March 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2015 Hi all, I booked through Carnival direct on an upcoming cruise in 2 weeks. How do you normally hear from the upsell fairy if she were to contact us? Email or phone? I normally book through a TA but didn't this time. Thanks! eyesofbrown Posted March 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2015 I was contacted by email to contact her. I then called her and she offered me an upsell. It was about a month before the cruise.
ETinCA Posted March 14, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted March 14, 2015 Ok thanks. I'll be watching. There are a couple very nice locations still available so it'd be nice to maybe have the phone ring. :D
springs741 Posted March 14, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 14, 2015 I have booked 17 cruise with Carnival, 12 of those were balcony rooms since 2011. I have never received an upgrade offer. I book thru a PVP, on board or on line. I share this information so you will not feel slighted if you are not contacted.
k9_Cop Posted March 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 14, 2015 Its mainly just luck. My wife and I have been on 7 cruises and had 2 upsell calls.
figdu Posted March 14, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 14, 2015 (edited) DW 15 cruises and I have 14. We have been called twice. Edited March 14, 2015 by figdu
nwcruiselover Posted March 14, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 14, 2015 I haven't ever gotten a call or e-mail either. I don't know how they decide who to call, but apparently I'm not in the demographics they're looking for.
volmoma Posted March 14, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 14, 2015 Normally we ALWAYS book inside cabin on the Lido deck. We're platinum cruisers, my cruise in May will be number 21 for me..if ship isn't sold out a few weeks before sailing date, the Upsale Fairy normally calls. It's a lot easier to Upsale for a few hundred dollars, than to book remaining balconies or suites. Then interior/ocean view cabins sell for a sold out sailing. We've upgraded several times for about a third of what it would have cost to book originally. Then if we're not called we have a cabin on the Lido deck in the middle of the action.. volmoma Posted March 14, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 14, 2015 If anyone doesn't have a PVP and are looking for one let me know, I'll give you all info including ext number. She works for Carnival and has been booking our cruises for upwards of 10 years. Even if you book on the ship she still takes care of us. She laughed when we booked our 4th cruise for this year and told us we were probably going to be her youngest Diamond cruisers!,

volmoma Posted March 15, 2015 #19 Share Posted March 15, 2015 What was the upgrade?
elliair Posted March 15, 2015 #20 Share Posted March 15, 2015 Never had an upsell and only one upgrade - which wasn't an upgrade IMHO, it was a downgrade, never again. Now when I book I firmly state no upgrade unless it's to the owner's suite.
Crazy4Cruisin225 Posted March 15, 2015 #21 Share Posted March 15, 2015 11 cruises with Carnival all booked direct either online, with PVP, or on board. Have never received an upgrade or upsell offer either by phone or email. Guess it's just luck of the draw.
JimAOk1945 Posted March 15, 2015 #22 Share Posted March 15, 2015 We received an upsell email and phone call about one month before our departure on our third Carnival cruise. I had booked a Grand Suite with and extended balcony, and accepted the upsell to the Penthouse Suite on the Carnival Ecstasy. It was fantastic! joshua70448 Posted March 16, 2015 #23 Share Posted March 16, 2015 I got an upgrade offer email and went through the website to pick the room. (I ended up needing to call because of a system error when trying to pay, so the system's not quite finished yet)
BigRed93 Posted March 16, 2015 #24 Share Posted March 16, 2015 I got a phone call the first time and had to make the decision on the spot. The 2nd time (years later) I received an email telling me to call for details and I also got a phone call. The first was about a week out. The 2nd was more like 3 weeks before.
