Craziest thing you admit to OR actually heard someone complaining about on a cruise?

I cruise mostly from California. The passenger mix isn't anywhere near 100% white. Maybe 50% caucasian with the rest being a mix of Asian and Hispanic. I always, always get a kick out of passengers (particularly Filipinos) speaking to the crew in their native language. The crew gets more animated to talk to someone other than a co-worker in their own language. Americans are cleaning cabins on the Pride of America, by the way. Plenty of Americans clean hotel rooms and houses in America. You just have to, you know, live here. In America. To work at low-paying jobs. In America.

Salamat . :D

Big difference between a hotel manager and a ship's Captain. I think everyone has heard that "a Captain's word is law", regardless of whether they have been to sea or not. You've also answered your own question when you look at the portion highlighted in red above. There is a difference between a shore excursion and an emergency. If the person can't tell the difference, or feel that their enjoyment is as important as another's emergency, then that is a case of entitlement.

If a ship can dock safely in case of an emergency but can't in case of an excursion, yes that would raise questions. I don't think a ship would be safe if the Captain's word wasn't law, but that does not imply that whatever the Captain says is right.

What questions would that raise? In one instance, the Captain weighed the risk of people not enjoying their time ashore against the possibility of damage to the ship. On the other hand, he weighs a passenger's life or health against the possibility of damage to the ship. Is there any comparison?

An elderly Texan lady LOUDLY complained about seeing no exotic animals on a skywalk in Costa Rica that was happening in broad daylight.

Another older lady saying (to our US friends) that there were too many Europeans on the cruise and that they should stick to their own lines because she didn't understand them. This was on a Baltic cruise with Carnival.

Really? People honestly believe that EMERGENCY situations are handled the same way as everyday situations - or expect everything to be done as if it was an emergency?

In EMERGENCY situations passengers (or crew) have been evacuated off of cruise ships by helicopter. Please don't tell us you'd question as to why that won't be done just because you want to go ashore someplace the ship won't be stopping.

Cruise lines are in the business to make money. Common sense tells you they are not making money on shore excursions if they have to miss a port. They aren't making passengers happy if they miss a port. Happy passengers spend money - and are more likely to cruise again. Ports aren't missed just because the Captain can't be bothered.

I was at the Future Cruise Desk on the Carnival Liberty in August waiting to ask about some December cruises.

There was a very unhappy woman describing to the FUTURE CRUISE DESK EMPLOYEE how she hated the design of the ship and the Promenade that goes down deck 5. She advised they completely redesign the whole deck as she hated having to go down the side with a bunch of people by the casino and other areas. She then proceeded to say she hated the ironwork design and general design of the ship and the theatre. It all needs to be changed.

As I was just thinking as I boarded the ship how beautiful the things were that she hates haha

. I still fully understand a passenger who just missed an excursion only explained by a message from the speakers "we can't dock now for difficult reasons. No excursions today. Captain's orders, sorry." and a few hours later "Because of an emergency, we will dock in Puerto Limon. Captain's orders". .

First, let me tell you that the Captain himself spoke to the passengers and said that because of the swell there was a real possibility of the mooring ropes snapping with the movement of the ship, which would lead to a serious risk of injury to both the disembarking/re embarking passengers and the port workers from flying ropes.

Second, four hours after the announcement of the port cancellation the Captain again came on the PA and told of the medical emergency. It would take a further 4 hours to return to the port, so 8 hours since the cancellation. Even then, when we arrived back to port it was what in car racing is called a 'splash and dash'. We were 'moored' (and I use the word lightly) for no more than 10 minutes, while the pax were put into the waiting ambulance.

Third, the lady knew well what the situation was as she quoted the Captain's words in her ranting complaints to the front desk.

As mentioned by chengkp75 - entitlement!

Ron White Comedian from The Blue Collar Comedy Tour which includes Jeff Foxworthy, Larry The Cable Guy and Bill Engvall said and I quote:"YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID!"

Unfortunately STUPIDS breed more STUPIDS at a rapid rate.

I'm sorry, but if the ship can't be safely tendered due to weather and or rough waves; I rather they cancel the stop then hear about that someone fell into the ocean due to walking all awkwardly on the plank / board / bridge. And you know someone will - who wants to be liable for that, definitely not the captain for starters!!

And if the ship is having a emergency but not close to land - they can either airlift that person off or wait til port that is not a tender (using a smaller ship to bring passengers to port). It depends on where the ship is and the how port stops gets the passengers off- its the captain's decision especially when it comes to tendering passengers off.

Overheard a guy at guest services, that the TV in his room didn't receive a certain channel, and if they didn't do something about it, he would miss his favorite show.

Not while on vacation while you should be sightseeing and swimming. Gasp! How dare they! [emoji13]

We had tablemates who complained bitterly about the Internet speed and how it was costing them a fortune to download thousands of emails a day. They then spent an hour talking about their seven mansions around the world, personal assistants and nannies, etc. We could barely contain our laughter over the absurdity.

We also had a guy complaining that he didn't get the "special gold card" that was being used on our last cruise to identify the people in our group. We were sailing with a winery and their wines were being poured for group. The crazy part was that it was advertised on the cruise lines web site and he could have booked it just like we did.

Or the couple that did not want to go to The Windjammer because they only serve food there, and they did not eat food.

I could go on ................

Did anyone ever figure out what it was that they DID eat? If not food, what? Utensils? Foliage? Toilet paper? The functions that cause the need for toilet paper?

A lady at breakfast telling off the waiter because her cereal came with 6 prunes and she only wanted 5  You couldn't make it up if you tried :D

Oh, this brings back memories. On our very first cruise in 1995, we were having breakfast in the main dining room one morning. One of our tablemates ordered two servings of cereal. She only wanted one bowl, but two boxes. She knew she would want more cereal but didn't want it to get soggy. She specifically told him she wanted it at the table so she could eat it when she got ready. Our waiter brought her a bowl, opened the first cereal, and put it in the bowl. She ate the cereal and the sat there fuming that he did not come back to the table to open the other box and put it in her bowl.

The roll call for the cruise was even MORE disgusting :o

I've been on one of those roll calls. The self-appointed leader was (among many other things) complaining someone got a free upgrade and he didn't. he even went as far as to spend 30 minutes on the phone with the cruise line to bitch, followed by huge tirades in the roll call.

1st night ATD on princess. Checking in to be seated the guy in front of us was wearing basketball shorts and a tank top and flip flops. The hostess told him that after that night he would need long pants. He said he didn't bring any long pants because Princess never told him he'd need them! It was September in Alaska! Obviously not a member of CC!

Love it.

I have two instances that come to mind.

#1 on MSC Lirica a few years back. We had just gotten our MSC Club Cards and you needed to go to Guest Services to have them activated so you would get your points. We did this as soon as we got on the ship. Well, we were next in line. The three Matrons in front of us were finagling trying to get a suite. They had booked an inside for three and were complaining that the beds were not large enough. The beds in the brochure showed King sized beds and their Hotel in Fort Lauderdale had THREE Queen Sized beds for them. They needed three Queen Sized beds in their Inside Cabin. When they were dismissed without any upgrades, and I made it to the desk, I told the Purser that they had done well. She activated my card and thanked me. (bottle of champagne was sent to the room)

#2. The morning after the Hypnotist show, my wife decided to do some laundry. The Casino was closed, so I went to Guest Services to get a roll of quarters. At the Guest Services was the "Star" of the Hypnotist's show (passenger not the Hypnotist) complaining that the Hypnotist gave him a post-hypnotic suggestion to be nice to his wife and friends. He said he proceeded to buy expensive drinks for his friends and himself, and a diamond watch for his wife AFTER the Show. And it was all because of the Post-Hypnotic Suggestion. He wanted GS to take the $2500 bar tab and $3000 watch off his account.

This thread is SO funny!

I was at GS taking care of a (legitimate) issue and the woman next to me was arguing that she wanted the DSC taken off from her two children "because they are under 18 and use no services". The desk clerk promptly asked if they have eaten in a restaurant or had their beds made up.
