Craziest thing you admit to OR actually heard someone complaining about on a cruise?

The cruise line had arranged for a magical evening--dinner inside the walls of an ancient temple in Egypt, string quartet playing, great food, perfect temperature, full moon above. And a table-mate complaining all through dinner about having to leave said ancient temple to find a toilet.

This thread is SO funny!

I was at GS taking care of a (legitimate) issue and the woman next to me was arguing that she wanted the DSC taken off from her two children "because they are under 18 and use no services". The desk clerk promptly asked if they have eaten in a restaurant or had their beds made up.

Was that NCL? Because other posters on that board don't believe me that NCL wants a reason to lower it down and even then they won't reduced it completely to 0. Plus I had the experience where the person didn't want to pay $50 for it after it was reduced from like $300 but wanted pay the daily drinks packages that Guest Services removed since the person claimed they were 'poor'.

It was NCL. The breakaway from NYC in February.

Breakway for Nov 30th for me. That Atrium stay having unintentional shows because of Guest Services....Otherwise it nice place to have events like bingo at, lol.

on MSC Lirica a few years back. We had just gotten our MSC Club Cards and you needed to go to Guest Services to have them activated so you would get your points. We did this as soon as we got on the ship. Well, we were next in line. The three Matrons in front of us were finagling trying to get a suite. They had booked an inside for three and were complaining that the beds were not large enough. The beds in the brochure showed King sized beds and their Hotel in Fort Lauderdale had THREE Queen Sized beds for them. They needed three Queen Sized beds in their Inside Cabin. When they were dismissed without any upgrades, and I made it to the desk, I told the Purser that they had done well. She activated my card and thanked me. (bottle of champagne was sent to the room)

After all that I'd be tempted to send her a bottle of champagne!

I'm not nice enough or patient enough to work a guest services desk...

I'm sure most of you heard about the repair...tied up at the dock issues on LIBERTY sailing March 19. There was a needed pipe repair needed internally and externally that took extra time than antisipated. .some folks were YELLING at staff at guest services to open up the casino..uh...tied at the dock in PE...don't think so...anyway. .while the repairs were underway...ONE dug bust..3 handcuffed and we're escorted off the ship...then TWICE 2 folks each walked off the ship..bags in tow...REALLY ??? We get underway late yes...but REALLY ??

Upon our return to PE...Man Overboard....very sad. As sad as it was WE chose to make lemonade out of lemons and enjoyed the R and R.

I was reading this review on the day you guys departed. The man at the end was very sad. But all the nonsense about a late start-- seriously? People getting escorted off in handcuffs. I hope they lose their cruise fare!!

A lady at the Lido shouting in Dutch at a waiter that she didn't like the buffet to be closed while all she wanted was "JUST A LITTLE SNACK!". I could hear the "conversation" from quite some distance.

The poor waiter used all his language skills including literally pointing to tell her to go to the other side of the buffet which was offering all the snacks she needed.. After a while I came over to explain in Dutch, which she did understand, then started to complain to me that they should have Dutch signs on HAL ships.

For myself I literally can't think of anything I could have complained about, except of course the fellow Dutch on board because there were more similar to this one.

The cruise line does have Holland in its name after all. So perhaps having signs in Dutch isn't so absurd. They do speak Dutch in Holland after all.

At dinner one evening, a woman at our table summoned the waiter back to complain that the coffee was TOO HOT!

I once had some one tell me that while they were in Le Bistro that some woman complained her Onion Soup was too hot! Crazy, how did she think they got the cheese to melt

At breakfast one morning a few years ago, two women and their 10-12 year old children were seated at a table next to us. The boys ordered orange juice and chocolate milk. When the orange juice arrived the lady screamed at the waiter that she had ordered a LARGE orange juice and these were small. The waiter said he was sorry and would be back with more orange juice. He returned with 2 more small juices per child and the lady went ballistic on him that she wanted LARGE GLASSES. Poor guy left and a waiter made the mistake of bowing to offer pastries, in between the ladies. Both of them proceeded to take various pastries with their hands...all in the tray while this poor waiter tried to politely stop them. They chewed him out, he walked away and we saw him dump the entire tray into the garbage. Later we saw a second waiter go to them with tongs in hand to ask, "which pastry would you like" and they drove into them with their hands and proceeded to pass them out to their sons and put two of them back on the tray when their sons didn't like the looks of them. Another tray went into the trash. The orange juice was brought in LARGE stemmed ice tea glasses and he ladies rudely asked him if he didn't understand what a LARGE orange juice glass should look like. They didn't want "no damn wine glasses" for their sons to be drinking out of. We were finished and left before they were finished.

SHEESH! Some of these stories are hilarious, but some of them make me cringe, and some even make me wish I was there so I can stand up for the Crew and Staff, which many from the stories handled the situations very well. Some people are just so damn rude! >:/

I am sure some complained and Frank even heard someone ask rather sharply "WHO DID THAT?" at the Solarium pool on our recent IOS cruise. I did a cannonball in the Solarium pool. :D followed by Frank doing one too. :p We made sure that everyone was out of the way first ;)

Nor am I!

If you really want to see cruisers with whom you would not wish to associate with, just hang around guest services for a while and you will certainly see some in action. Whenever I go to guest services, I try to be extra polite and always thank them for their attention and service. I sure as hang wouldn't want the job!

Guy in the cabin next to us didn't get his luggage which was unfortunate, but he chose to go through 2+ weeks without any additional clothes other than the T-shirt the cruise line gave him moaning and complaining instead of moving on. There was a menswear shop onboard where he could have easily and fairly reasonably purchased a couple of outfits, or he could have taken a taxi onshore to a discount store one day to buy some clothes, but instead he chose to be miserable, complain and wear the same shorts and t-shirt everyday. When you travel, things can go wrong. They just can and the best thing to do is immediately adjust to whatever goofy thing that has happened and move on from there. But spoiling your own 2 week European vacation makes no sense whatsoever.

Background before the ship - We were on a Celebrity cruise last January in South America. We flew down in a blizzard out of NY and get to Buenos Aires 3 days before the cruise left port. Unfortunately our luggage didn't make it to BA with us. After calling American Airlines and getting approval to shop to replace things, we got a suitcase and some clothes for our 2 week trip.

Once on the ship we went directly to Guest Service and put in a lost luggage claim and explained what happened. They let us use the phone to contact AA again to track the luggage. We never got angry (only with AA) and were very polite to the girl helping us. While standing there for 2 hours (between 5pm - 7pm) what we heard from other passengers amazed us -

1. One couple complained that they had early seating for dinner but their luggage hadn't gotten to the cabin yet at and "how can we go to dinner without changing clothes?"

2. Another gentleman complained after his dinner that his steak was not big enough and he shouldn't have to order more than one to be satisfied.:p He also stated that if this is how he is going to be served for 2 weeks he will waste away (personally it would have taken months for him to waste away given his size)

3. Another couple lost a form you needed to get off the boat in Argentina - they had it when they checked in (you couldn't check in without it) and when Guest Services said the wife couldn't get off the ship in that port they complained their entire cruise was ruined and were trying to get off the ship:confused:

4. Another couple didn't like the layout of their cabin and wanted things moved and heavier curtains put up over the balcony doors.

We ate dinner at 9pm wearing our meager belongings. The next day we went to Guest Services to use their phone again to call AA and finally on the day the cruise was leaving port the luggage made it to the airport. We ran over there and got it, came back 3 hrs before the ship left port. Went back to Guest Services to find the girl who had been helping us and thank her for all her help. She almost cried and every time she saw us was always willing to help us in any way we needed for those two weeks.

This past Sunday getting off the Carnival Pride in Baltimore a woman ahead of us complaining about the airport-style tunnel/ramp used to get off the ship.

"Royal would never do this! They wouldn't use a tunnel like this, they'd just use a ramp and I could walk right off!"

(She was proudly wearing her white Royal sweatshirt)

Of course, 5 minutes later (in between scolding her Husband) she was asking if there was a shorter line she could wait in once we got into the terminal.

I thought, WOW you are that stressed out after a 14 day cruise? You need a vacation lady!

Clearly she has never sailed out of Baltimore before. Royal uses the same Ramp of Doom as Carnival does. Also, baltimore's terminal is one of the easiests and least time consumig to deal with

What I've experienced is.. if you're nice and polite to Guest Services (or any other employee of any company) you will always receive 'above and beyond' service from them. Many people don't understand the concept. But, I'm not "Entitled".

This may seem a little ridiculous but just back from a Mariner Asia cruise...and my complaint was no "yellow mustard" really something I have never even given a thought to after 20+ cruises with RCI. They finally found some and sent several packets to my cabin that I would take with me to the WJ when needed...Never thought I would be a "mustard hoarder"...my cabin steward must have thought we were crazy.:D:D
