Rare Travelw Posted April 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2015 It would be nice if Princess would have video progress on the Island like they did with the Grand. What do you think? Dennis
Tyskie Posted April 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2015 I was hoping for that as we're on her in September.

houndlover Posted April 8, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 8, 2015 We're very excited to be on the May 22 sailing as well. While I feel for those who are attached to the things that are changing, I'm not upset because in 5 sailings on the Island, I found the areas being removed/changed to be underutilized. Well, I'll miss the former gym, but that's such a minor detail. I don't think the changes are going to affect any more than a small number overall, especially on port-intensive cruises. Astro Flyer Posted April 8, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 8, 2015 So we can all 'cry-along' as they make the changes? Why would I want to see the carnage? Princess originally promoted the Island's changes on their website but I'm unable to find any sort of promotion now. My guess is they've received enough negative feedback & realize that except for the few passengers who will enjoy the new cabins, there's no reason to promote all of the negative aspects of the changes. :(
Thrak Posted April 8, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 8, 2015 I think it would be interesting to have the total refit available for viewing on youtube but sincerely doubt that will happen. Adding more cabins isn't "sexy" like the changes made on the Grand.

logan25 Posted April 8, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 8, 2015 I have fond memories of the Island Princess. We sailed her on our first Alaskan itinerary. Her library is to die for!
Cruise Arizona Posted April 8, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 8, 2015 Yikes, I just found out about the changes today. I will be eagerly waiting to see how the replacing of public space with cabins affects the overall feel of the ship. I will be tuning in for reports from those booked in May. I don't think it's ever to the benefit of the passengers to cram more cabins/passengers into the same space. Not only are there more passengers, there are less common areas. At least when they added the Riviera decks to the other ships they didn't eliminate common areas to do so.
catugirl Posted April 9, 2015 #14 Share Posted April 9, 2015 Our first cruise was on Island Princess. We loved her. What changes are they making besides adding more cabins? What space are they sacrificing to add those cabins?

Astro Flyer Posted April 9, 2015 #16 Share Posted April 9, 2015 (edited) Our first cruise was on Island Princess. We loved her. What changes are they making besides adding more cabins? What space are they sacrificing to add those cabins? These side-by-side deck plans posted by Dave on the other thread show the changes which is sad to me as my cruises on the Island & Coral were some of our best cruises. Here is a side-by-side comparison of some of the major changes... Universe Lounge and aft Promenade Deck wrap around goes away completely, Fitness Center relocated down from Lido Deck Casino downsized Baja, Aloha, and Lido Decks aft are extrended/squared off and aft facing public access decks go away, Sanctuary Relocated :D I'm guessing one of the aesthetic attractions to The Sanctuary on Island Princess was, although the space wasn't great in its length, it was beautifully tiered over three decks looking aft over the stern. That, and it had it's own designated pool for Sanctuary use only. I did another before/after comparison for The Sanctuary, and despite the lack of any indication of a pool, I wonder if post-refit it will at least have a dipping-pool similar to Regal Princess' Deck 17 aft? It will be interesting to see what the stern of Island Princess looks like when they are finished extending all of the aft upper decks and adding all of those cabins; most likely like that of a Grand-class but without any tiered decks aft or SkyWalkers Lounge to offset the bluntness of the stern. Not that it matters, but I'm sure it won't be very attractive. The Sanctuary Edited April 9, 2015 by Astro Flyer
