siamesei Posted April 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2015 Boarding the Star on Sunday in SF and wondering what to expect weather wise the two days it takes from San Fransico to Cabo?
Rare oskidunker Posted April 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2015 It is usually rough due to two currents meeting
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted April 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2015 Going south will be a little more tame than your return trip northbound.
siamesei Posted April 12, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted April 12, 2015 Thank you Oskidunker does that mean spending more time inside the ship rather than outside?
2pbears Posted April 12, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2015 Your temperatures will get progressively warmer as you head south. The first day or so out of San Francisco might be considered "indoor days" depending on how hardy you are.
Pam in CA Posted April 12, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2015 The California Current runs north to south from the Gulf of Alaska to Baja California. A very cold and sometimes rough current. It'll be a lot chiller the first two days sailing and returning as a result. Temps will probably be in the upper 60's or thereabouts. Not to mention wind chill. Sailing north, the ship sails against the current so it can be rougher. That's why extra time is built into the itinerary on the return.
redtogo Posted April 12, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2015 We have sailed North out of San Francisco to Alaska. Had always heard it was known for rough seas. We had no problems and never felt a swell or a bump. We could not have asked for smoother sailing. We also sailed South out of San Francisco, again, no problems. rick160158 Posted April 13, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2015 Been on Mexican cruises Many times. It's hit and miss. Did this cruise in October and it was smooth and hot both ways, the first 2 days and the last 3. You just have to cross your fingers on this. KruzPrincess Posted April 13, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 13, 2015 Just returned from a CA Coastal. Weather in SF in AM was 44 low and 57 high. It was coolish until we got to San Diego and Ensenada where it was in the 70's. However, warmer weather is predicted. It has always been cool going around the Baja in my experience.
