cruiser2053 Posted April 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2015 Does anybody know if you can now bring back Cuban Cigars into the U.S. Will be on the Breeze in June and was hoping to bring some home with me legally
BigB0882 Posted April 16, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2015 How are they going to know so long as you are not bringing back a case load? I have never once been checked after going through customs. What is the big deal about Cuban cigars, anyway?
rtap23 Posted April 16, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2015 If you are a cigar smoker you would know that Cuban cigars are the best.
BeachinBeauty Posted April 16, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2015 I purchased one on my most recent cruise. Walked it back onboard in my beach bag and wasn't stopped. I don't know if it's just because that's legal now (I was under the impression it was) or they just didn't see it. Will have to research that. okgirl Posted April 16, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 16, 2015 No it is not yet legal to bring Cuban cigars back into the US. Nothing has really changed since the announcement of normalizing relations. It will be years and take an act of congress to make any change happen.
rtap23 Posted April 16, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 16, 2015 I'm not sure if we are allowed to bring them in yet. What I have done in the past when I have bought them is to remove the cigar band off of them.
BrotherCraig Posted April 16, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 16, 2015 (edited) I believe, with the new Cuba-U.S. relationship, you can bring up to $100 of Cuban cigars back into the States. President Obama bypassed Congress and issued a executive order on it. Edited April 16, 2015 by BrotherCraig

Thanks for the clarification on that. A lot of people don't know that and are bringing them back, successfully, from the cruises. Well, there is no way I will ever go to Cuba and give them my money directly -- so I guess that is out. lol Edited April 16, 2015 by BrotherCraig
cruiser2053 Posted April 16, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted April 16, 2015 So I can go to Cuba and bring one back but I can't buy one in Cozumel and bring it back, guess I'll have to smoke a bunch on the cruise
BeachinBeauty Posted April 16, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 16, 2015 Oops. I didn't even realize what I was doing was wrong. I just brought back one, though. Sent from my SM-G900V using Forums mobile app

You can probably get many Dominican and other brands masquerading as Cubans though.
YubaSutter Posted April 16, 2015 #13 Share Posted April 16, 2015 If you are a cigar smoker you would know that Cuban cigars are the best. If you were a cigar smoker, you would know that your statement is not true. Of the top 5 cigars in the world, only 1 Cuban made the list (#4). Nicaraguan cigars were #1 and #3. A Dominican cigar is #2, and a Honduran cigar is #5. This is according to Cigar Aficionado.

BrotherCraig Posted April 16, 2015 #15 Share Posted April 16, 2015 The Nicaragua cigars are very good and you can get them all around the cruise ports in the Caribbean. They brought soil and things like that from Cuba to that country -- perfected the cigar. Most can't tell the difference between the two.

rtap23 Posted April 16, 2015 #17 Share Posted April 16, 2015 Nice try on the back peddle. I am Cuban and cigars are one of the only good things we make so I am a little biased in my opinion
donaldsc Posted April 17, 2015 #18 Share Posted April 17, 2015 You can only bring Cuban cigars into the US from Cuba. You would have found this out and very quickly by typing "bringing cuban cigars into us" into Google. DON
iancal Posted April 17, 2015 #19 Share Posted April 17, 2015 Be careful. Lots of banana leaf cigars dressed up to imitate Cubans. There are lots of these for sale in the Dominca Republic. Not sure about other islands.
cruiser2053 Posted April 18, 2015 Author #20 Share Posted April 18, 2015 That is the hard part knowing for sure that you are buying the real thing. I saw a list on CC at one time of reputable dealers I was going to see if I could find that again On another note sure there are other places to find this information but I thought that the reason for CC was to have conversation about things lie this and if people don't want to participate then don't
