Who has gotten cabin assignments this week?

Bostonjetset:

Can I ask when you booked the cruise? I booked just a week before sailing - a last minute whim because winter is still hanging on here in Vermont... and after my Westerdam Carib. cruise last month I hadn't had "enough" yet... anyway, because I booked so close to sailing I assumed all the other people who had booked guarantees before me would get the upgrades, so I'm curious whether you were even more last minute than me? I originally booked as a single, but added a friend a few days ago (pretty sure that doesn't matter...) If you booked ages ago I'm feeling a little guilty at getting the "better" cabin out of the N GTY ! :o What is HAL thinking? You have a good location BTW... we are on deck 4 - also midship but the longest walk from either the aft or forward elevators possible - but certainly not complaining!

coolbluegreenseas:

I will try to post while on the cruise - depends on internet speed and availability and price. I've never been to Bermuda, so it will be interesting to see what places right in Hamilton I can go to log on. Also, I'm spoiled from Westerdam having unlimited reasonably priced wifi... but that's off topic for this thread...:o

Moriah, I booked my N GTY at the beginning of March so not as last minute as you but certainly not ages ago. I am on the May 9th sailing though and I believe you are sailing May 2nd?

I am pretty happy with our stateroom but then I am not that picky about where on the ship I am. I am glad we are on Deck 5 as I prefer not to be on the very bottom deck [although I would have been okay with an OV on Deck 4 like you got!] but other than that I am happy just to be on the ship :D

We received our cabin number yesterday for a May 23 sailing. Originally we and our friends booked two side by side insides but a few weeks later our travel agent notified us that we could have a guarantee outside for the same price but we probably would be separated from our friends. So now we have a midship outside cabin and are very happy. Our travelling companions will be in the stateroom next to us so everything is great. Can't wait to sail!

You too!!

It's my first time with HAL so I'm quite excited and Bermuda is such a lovely place.

Glad you all received your cabins and upgrades! Give us a little review of the trip when you get back. I'm on the 6/27 Boston-Bermuda and would love to hear how things went.

Booked a GTY inside (N) yesterday for 9 May. Got my room assignment today and moved up to a (K)..... If they want to keep moving me up that's fine but I'm just happy to be going (even if I had to sit in the bottom of the ship and use one of the oars :p)

What ship? We are waiting for May 9 on the Westerdam.

Congrats on the upgrade!

The Veendam to Bermuda....I registered on HA this morning and put in my booking number and my TA had done the on-line check in for us....I saw where it said "print baggage tags" and clicked on it and the cabin number was there.....got the e-docs access shortly afterwards.

I really had NO idea what to expect with only having booked yesterday....and never cruised (unless you count my '73 "adventure" on a troop ship converted to an educational cruise ship - we slept in dorms on "racks" with about 25 other people...). Really hoping I like it, but my first step will be trying to navigate Boston to the cruise terminal - it's a MASSIVE city compared to what I'm used to.

We are booked on the Statendam Cruise starting May 18th.

We booked a BB guarantee cabin in december. Two weeks ago price dropped and HAL allowed us to choose one of the left B categorie cabins. So we do not have a guarantee anymore and don't know if it was a good deal to change into a B 🍀

But are looking forward to go on the Statendam 😄

We have a land/sea trip which starts on land first. Our cruise is on 24 May. We booked a guarantee ocean view in December. The ocean view has been sold out for some time. I am hoping that I hear something before we leave for the land portion on the 21st. Judging from what I read above we should. Hoping for a move up a couple of categories, but we will be happy with what we booked if not. Just icing on the cake above what you booked. Last time in 2012 we were moved up 4 categories and put in a very convenient to everything cabin. We did hear on that one about two weeks before we cruised. We did the Alaska cruise on the Amsterdam last time and loved it. We really wished we had done the land as well so that is what we decided this time and I know we will enjoy it.

We just got our cabin yesterday. Our sail date is 24 May. It was on a guarantee and we got what we paid for. The TA said we were on a list for an upgrade. However, I am questioning since the cabin has been assigned if we will actually have a chance for an upgrade. Has anyone had a cabin assigned in a guarantee and then been upgraded at a later date? I am not unhappy as we got what we paid for. Interesting in that the ocean views have been sold out for some time, but when you go in to do a dummy booking the ocean view shows up, but when you go to select a cabin there are none to chose from. Wasn't that way before in the booking part. It just showed it was sold out. Would say they must be working on them now as the cabin number showed up yesterday afternoon. Is the same this morning.

Yes, it has happened to me once or twice before that my cabin has changed after assignment. I have about 330 days with hal, most guarantees. There is no upgrade list and I have no idea why TAs use words like this. Hal asks if you would be open to an upgrade. It doesn't guarantee one.

I don't really expect to be moved up even though it was a guarantee and we said we would be open to an upgrade in ocean view. Especially since ocean view was sold out a good month ago or more. This is the last time I will use the particular travel agent. I have used her a few times and had minor problems with her. She missed my final payment this time even though reminding me twice and telling me she would make it on time. So I don't put much credence in what she tells me anymore. This isn't the thread for this so I won't rant on too much. Considering going with HAL next time on my own and using one of their PCs. I had to chat with HAL several times this time to find out information that my current TA should have known. I was lucky HAL told me that there was a grace period for final payment. We are very much looking forward to this trip and I am not going to allow the TA to bring me down in regards to this trip.

While there are a few stinker PCC's I find the one I have now to be quite good. I know there are a few people that swear their ta is the best thing since sliced bread saying they will fight for them if there are issues. I simply don't get that. Why would anyone fight harder for someone then the person could fight for themselves? Makes no sense to me.

The thing is Cruz Chic I think I can do just as good as she has done and maybe better because I know what I want. This trip was a lark as I got something in the mail from HAL. Ocean view for $899 that included a land tour with it--11 days total. I called the TA. She couldn't find it and she said she called HAL and they couldn't find it either. I took the Alaska sale book in HAL sent me and all of a sudden there it was and she booked it. The air came next. She suggested the HAL airfare that is flexible and you could make changes until final payment. When I asked questions about it like "its flexible so does that mean if the air fare goes up from the fare I was quoted by HAL does that mean I have to pay more?" She wasn't sure, but she thought it wouldn't. Well I am sitting there watching the air fare go up and up. I contacted HAL via chat and was told it could go up and I could end up paying more than originally quoted. I didn't want that. That is just a couple of things that happened before the missed final payment. I shouldn't have to do all this work that is what the TA is paid for. I will be back on if we do get a change of cabins to let everyone know what happened. Thanks Cruz Chic for your advice and knowledge. Cruise Critic is a good go to place for all kinds of information.

With no disrespect to your agent, HAL has a feature called Autocharge .... it allows the agent to advise them of your credit card # at any point, and the final payment will be made by HAL on the due date.

So unless I'm missing something (always possible) there's no real excuse for an agent missing a final payment date.

I don't like to see people treated like this but unfortunately I think a lot of TAs are like this. Just looking to get the money. Cruise critic is a great place for info. I've learned a ton here. It took me a long time to book without a ta and I'm so much more happy now that I have the control over my booking and not having to listen to the inaccurate info my ta gave. She was supposed to be a cruise specialist:rolleyes:.

Final payment was due on a Saturday. The TA normally works on Saturdays. I checked my bank account and thinking it was a weekend that perhaps it didn't post. I actually chatted with a HAL representative on Sunday just to see if the payment had gone through. It had not and was told HAL couldn't do anything about it as I had to go through the TA. I understood that and sent HAL's reply to me via email after my chat with them. She made the payment on Monday. This Travel Agency is well known and all over the US. This TA has been at this particular office for sometime and is one of the more experienced agents. I am surprised she was not aware of the Autocharge. When I sent her that email on Sunday about the missed final payment the reply I got back was she was out of the office on Saturday. She could have paid it before the due date as well as she had my permission to do so. Thanks for the info on this. As I said earlier Cruise Critic is a great wealth of information

My mom and I booked the 14-day Oosterdam May 10th roundtrip from Vancouver about two months ago, and got our cabin assignment this morning. We booked a Neptune guarantee, and that's what we got: SA7053. We didn't expect an upgrade -- there's not a lot of places to go. ;)
