bbryan5 Posted April 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) So I'm currently booked in a nice, mid ship balcony on the Breakaway for a May sailing to Bermuda! This will be our 6th NCL cruise. Anyhow, I just found out that I can upgrade to a "mini suite guarantee" for only $32 more. I've never don't these "guarantee" bookings before. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this means I don't get to choose the cabin, correct? Which means I could end up in a less desirable area.. I guess my question is, are there mini suites in bad areas? I.E floor below the pool, under or over the night club, near the casino, you get the idea. So for you more experienced cruisers, would you take the chance for 32 bucks, and go for the mini suite guarantee or just be happy with you're mid ship balcony? As always, Any help greatly appreciated :D:D:D Edited April 24, 2015 by bbryan5
meatball_nyc Posted April 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2015 I wouldn't do it, but that's just me. Do you get sea sick?

We turned one down because it was right next to the Kid's Club. I'd rather stay in the smaller regular balcont that I specifically picked. But only you would know what might bother you. travelbug771 Posted April 24, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2015 I wouldn't do it either. I would wait a couple of more days and see if it becomes a free upgrade. If it does, then I would do it. We are sailing on the Pride of America in couple of weeks and got upgraded to a penthouse suite for free. I would have been so mad, if i had paid the $250 the day before! tel2 Posted April 24, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 24, 2015 I wouldn't do it for a regular minisuite. But if you can talk them into a minisuite with a large balcony, I would do it in a heartbeat. They are all on one deck, and the balconies are amazingly large, and I dont think there are any bad locations. From the port side large balconies, you can see the fireworks.... BrPanthers99 Posted April 24, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 24, 2015 I had a balcony on the BA my first trip, MiniSuite the second time. Extra room was nice, but I would not do it. They could put you anywhere!!!

bbryan5 Posted April 25, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted April 25, 2015 No, I don't get sea sick, but I see your point. You all make some very valid points actually. Maybe it's not worth it. I would have to give up a mid ship balcony on deck 11 and end up next to the kids club, or a deck below the pool. It't tempting but I'm leaning towards no.. Cruzncutie Posted April 25, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 25, 2015 I wouldn't do it. Four of us were booked in a Haven 2 bedroom family suite. Got a call from NCL a week before sail date offering a free upgrade to an Owners Suite. We reluctantly turned it down because the OS on the Epic only has one bedroom and one bathroom. No one was willing to sleep in the open living area and share one bathroom between four women. Sometimes bigger isn't always better. Yes, the mini suite is larger than the balcony, but it's risky without knowing the location. It may be a pessimistic point of view, but if you ended up in a horrible location you'd be kicking yourself for taking the offer. TardisDance Posted April 25, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 25, 2015 I wouldn't. I went on a cabin crawl on the Breakaway and mini-suites only have a larger bathroom. It's really not that impressive - double sinks and a bigger shower I believe. Personally, I would turn around and negotiate for a free or low cost upgrade to a spa balcony or an aft facing balcony instead :D
