Wastegirl Posted April 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2015 Has anybody done a cruise to New Guinea and/or Solomon Islands, the one I am looking at leaves from Cairns and goes to Doini Island, Kitvana, Rabaul, Gizo Island, Honiara then scenic cruising through the Kawanasausau Straight and Milne Bay before returning to Cairns. We've done or about to do NZ, the South Pacific, top and bottom of Australia including the Coral Coast off WA and are looking for something different. Am not interested in Asia and hubby does not like flying long distances. We also like smaller to mid size ships, so this caught our eye but I can't find any comments on CC regarding these ports. Oh and we are on a budget so boutique cruising is out as well as the high end cruise lines, so that nifty cruise through the Kimberleys with helicopters and gourmet food will just have to wait until we win the lottery :D Thanks
ozziepost Posted April 28, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2015 We did the 20 night battle field cruise on the Dawn Princess last year. This was an excellent trip and Princess are now doing shorter versions minus the Vanuatu and Noumea sectors. Ports visited included Alotau, Doini Island, Kiriwinia Island, Kitava Island (missed due to weather conditions not being suitable to launch tenders) Rabaul (unable to go ashore due to poor air quality as a result of volcano erupting). Honiara - a pleasant surprise. Santo, Champagne Bay, Vila and Noumea. I have put some posts on the PNG and Solomon Islands TA forums which will give you a bit more info. Altogether a great trip. Aus Traveller Posted April 28, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2015 Last November we went on a Princess cruise that visited Alotau, Doini Island, Kiriwinia Island, Kitava Island and Rabaul. We didn't go to Honiara. We enjoyed these different ports, and people we spoke to on board were enthusiastic about the itinerary.
