Travel Reading Light for Verandah

I am seeking a reading light in order to be considerate of neighbors who do not want my bright light disturbing them if they like a dark room in which to sleep. My opening post actually stated that. :)

Sail!

I first posted my responds to you in regards to my husband's clip on book light.

He said it is a led light and told me to tell you it will be great on the verandah at night for you. Said he has no problems with it.

So please enjoy your wonderful cruise coming up, and love CruzChic she always is there when needed!

Your great Sails.

Denise:)

S7S,

This is like the one I finally settled on - if the link below doesn't work try googling mightybright pocketflex . I can't attach a photo but I can say I've been very happy with it. The $5 one I bought at a discount store only lasted me a couple of months of light usage so even though this one is about $15 it has served well. I'm sure there are many others too. m--

That is the one I bought at Barnes and Noble! My husband really likes his.

Thank you for the link.

Hi Sail,

I have used a clip on reading light on a plane at night when I didn't want to turn on the overhead light and disturb others. I can't help you with where to buy one as I bought them here in Aus. I have used quite a few over the years, some from bargain stores (like the $2.00 shops we have here) and the one I have now was more expensive (about $15) which has served me well for a number of years. It has a small round button like lithium battery. It has a clip on one end that attaches to the top of the book. The stem is flexible so you can bend it to suit where you want the light to shine. I am sure you would be able to find something like this in the US. I recommend this type of light for what you want. Hope this helps. Jen. :)

Responding to a question about the brand of headlamp I use. I have a Black Diamond, model MM5990 A. It has one main beam and three smaller lights, and you can use the main for a concentrated spot light or the three for a more diffused light. Each has three intensities and it also flashes as an emergency locator.

Really useful for fine work - it has so many uses beyond being a great reading light.

I suggest that you go to a book store and look at the reading lights. We have several and it depends on the size of the book to find one that's right. Count me in as one of the "I'll never use a Kindle" people who now can't believe I resisted. DH continued to lug many books along because he wanted "real books" I bought him a Kindle and now he loves it.

But do go to a store and see the lights for yourself and decide what is right for you, DH still has his itty bitty book light from years ago.

The XtraFlex book light is the one I bring along. (Mine is purple.) I like it because it stands by itself and is lightweight. I don't really like those that only clip on to a book. Mine doubles as a nightlight. I keep it on the nightstand and can turn it on and use it as a flashlight during the night if I need to get up. The light allows me to easily see where I'm going and won't disturb DH. (Oh.. and I'm also a Kindle lover!!)

Probably available at your local sporting goods store or REI.

Sorry I misread your OP. So we looked around and found the perfect solution and here is a link:

Now all you need is a gas mask (to filter out the cigarette and cigar smoke) that you can wear with the miners hat. Not sure if anyone makes a mask in colors that would coordinate with the hat :).

Thanks for that tip, I'll be looking at Walmart.

Great! The link is to amazon, but you can at least know what you are looking for. It weighs .8 ounces and it is also great to grab for a trip to the bathroom during the night if you are sharing your cabin

DH & I both have a High intensity light which is attached to our normal lights on each side of our bed, but my light went bonkers a couple of weeks ago & keeps flickering.. DH & I saw these lights on Oceania & said we had to get them..DH's light still works...

I ordered my Petzl Tikkina Headlamp from Amazon Apr. 30 & received it May 4.. It's a wonderful gadget! It has a one inch wide adjustable band which is very comfortable on my head.. I've been using it every night in bed & it lights up the pages beautifully.. Also used it to take our Dog out at night.. Usually carry a flashlight with me but this works just as well & leaves my hands free for "doggy pick up" :D.. The light has two intensities.. Took a while for me to find the battery box, but once I figured it out it was great.. 3 AAA batteries came with it.. Excellent Gadget & no shipping charges..This is the one I purchased from Amazon:

"Petzl Tikkina Headlamp Ocean Blue One Size Sold by: GearExpress $19.25 "

I also ordered another LED clip-on Booklight from Amazon April 28 which came today.. It's a rechargable clip on also with two intensities.. Box says it will last for 16 hrs at half brightness & 8 hrs on full brightness but it also came with an AC adaptor which will charge it up in 2 1/2 hours.. Life expectancy is 50,000 Hrs..Since there were shipping charges on this light I decided to purchase a John Sandford & another James Patterson Hardcover to get free shipping.. This is the light I purchased.. Will try using it tonight & let you know how I like it..

"LE® Portable LED Book Light, Rechargeable and Flexible, 2-Level Brightness, AC Adaptor and USB Cord Included, Daylight White, Travel Light, Clip Light Sold by: NEON MART $10.99"

Suspect I'll use the headlamp for all my soft cover books & use the clip-on for my hardcover books, but can't tell yet which one I'll like the best.. The headlamp takes batteries, the clip-on is rechargeable & IMO "The Price is Right" for both of the lights..:) These little gadgets will be great if a Hurricane hits & our lights go off..
