Last year we did the British Isles (Norwegian Fjords) with Celebrity's Constellation. Princess does that cruise and so do a few other cruise lines. We've been on 40+ cruises and that was definitely one of our most memorable. We've sailed Alaska and the fjords in South America and New Zealand... and those were wonderful but the Norwegian Fjords were amazing. As one of the cruisecritics friends we met on board (there were 108 of them) said... it was sensory overload! If you go, be sure and take the cruise ship's "overland excursion" in Greinger/Hellyselt sp?. There are few taxi's in that desolate area so the ship's tour is a must. You really get close up and personal with the fjords and nature. Take lots of film or be prepared with your digital camera!

I totally agree with Sandy's reply. I was there last summer on the Royal Princess. Our cruise was Norwegian Fjords and Iceland. The highlight of our trip was the all day overland trip from Gereinger/Hellysylt. It was truly breathtaking. We loved every minute of the trip and would definitely recommend it.

We also really liked the Royal. Even though it's an older ship, the size and friendliness of everyone on board was wonderful.

Firstly we are seniors. We were first considering RCI's newest ship the Jewel of the Seas, doing the british isles and then Norway, i.e. Bergen, Flaem,Geiranger,Hellersylt on to Amsterdam and back to London. Now I looked at Holland American Line and found their newest ship, the Westerdam is doing a trip to the Fjords, not doing the british isles but mostly Norway, crossing the Arctic Circle up to the North Cape. Somehow this route has more appeal but we cruised only one on the Holland American Line and were not impressed. I guess we have to make a decision fast at this point.

Have you considered the Norwegian Coastal Working Ships? (used to be sold under Bergen Line name - don't recall what they call themselves now).

Anyway, they are like the "milk trains" of old, working their way along the coast, loading cargo and passengers at many small ports.

We did it in Jul 00, on the Nordnorge, which then was almost new, and suprisingly, almost to cruise ship standards. Food was very Scandinavian, but hearty.

We thoroughly enjoyed it, and were amazed at how different the Norwegian fjords/glaciers are from those in Alaska or New Zealand.

Well, as a senior myself, I found them to be friendly, but then, I like to think I am fairly easy-going.

We were travelling in a seniors group, with Grand Circle Travel, a spin-off of AARP.

We, in our sixties, really enjoyed Norwegian Coastal Voyages several years ago. We booked there flights into Oslo, the train trip to Bergen and one way ship to Kirkenes. We went the end of May which meant snow on all the mts. but not overly cold weather. After the cruise we had a rail pass and went to Copenhagen, Stolkhom, Finland, Rhine R., Bruges and back up to Bergen where we stayed two nights in an apt. which our friends had stayed in at the beginning of the trip. As recommended by someone on the internet, we took a boat to Balestrand and stayed over at the Balestrand Hotel. The views from our balcony were outstanding. They have a nice web site now. We would love to go back and take the ferries to a different small town every few days. Email me if you have any questions. Doris
