Where have all the waterslides gone?

The main reason is that a large portion of our cruising is Alaska since they leave from Seattle and thus i don't have to fly anywhere. In fact I can watch them come and go from my living room.

I'm sure I will still use NCL... but the waterslide problem and this rooms service thing are really bugging me. And it doesn't even affect me usually as we are mostly in suites where room service is always free. But it scares me to make make a contract and not know if at any moment, something can be taken away with no notice. Foolishly I thought booked cruises would be grandfathered in.

Not sure what you mean by "foolishly I thought booked cruises would be grandfathered in" ? They removed the slides....how do you grandfather people in on something like that? When they go into dry dock they make changes...happens all the time. Now as for the "room service" issue. I am not happy about that one either. We don't book suites other than the mini suite so we now have to pay for room service. I see a trend slowly happening where nothing is free on the ships anymore. What use to be all inclusive minus alcohol, we are now paying for this and that....even a simple ice cream cone.

We too were disappointed last month on the Pearl with no waterside. We are booked on the Jade April 9th and I know it's going into dry dock just before. Does anyone know for sure if tell Jade has a slide??

Jade recently had its slide removed in preparation for doing music charters. It's uncertain but doubtful that it would get a new one as part of the dry dock.

Gem pool deck as of 2 weeks ago. The slide is pretty slow unless you lay all the way back flat on your back. For us water slides are a must, for our son especially. We will be sticking to Breakaway class and Carnival at this point. Loved the Gem overall though.

The Gem's slide hours were pretty limited too - like 10-5
