How does the casino work on Princess, slots and roulette?

I don't gamble a lot but like to have probably $20 or so on the slots of an evening or perhaps a couple of spins on roulette. Just wondering whether I need cash in dollars (I'm from UK) or if it just gets charged to the card. On celebrity it was cash - I think - and I withdrew cash on my cruise card at the casino cashiers window.

You can even put US cash into the slots. You just don't get cash back as anything left goes on to your casino account. You have to go to the cashier to get the cash from your casino account.

What is the casino account?

It is an account kept on the casino's books and is separate from your on-board account kept by the purser.

They casino tries to remain cashless for the most part. While the machines and tables will accept cash, machines pay back on your casino account and tables use chips. The casino account is only used for the slot machines.

Your cruise card is used to access your casino account. All machines accept your cruise card. The first time you use your card in a machine, you will be asked to set up a PIN, using your birth date as a verification.

From then on, at a machine, you can transfer money from your on-board account (that's the only connection between the two accounts and it's one-way) to your casino account. There is no charge for this. To start playing you must then transfer money from your casino account to the machine. When you are done with a machine, you upload any remaining credits (ha ha) from the machine back to your casino account.

You can also add cash to the casino account via the machine or at the cashier's cage.

On the last night of the cruise you should be sure to visit the cashier's cage and get any funds (again ha ha) from your account. The cage will be closed in port and you won't have the opportunity to get the funds on disembarkation day.

If you miss that, the casino makes you think you will never see any remaining funds again but there are reports that forgotten funds are eventually returned to their owners.

you set up an account when you play the slots........it is saved by using a PIN to access. You need to put your cruise card in the specified slot on machine.

If you win , in order to get money from machine you will need to upload to your account.

You can then use winnings on a new machine by downloading the money to that machine or you can take cruise card to cashiers window and they will give you the cash.

Like many gamblers, I have a "system". :)

I put $20 into the slot machine and, when it's all gone, I quit. I never have to worry about dealing with "winnings" (whatever those are...) I don't often use my system because it seems to just be a way of giving away $20 and I can do that in the bar during the BOGO or by putting $20 in an envelope for my steward. I actually found slots a lot more fun in the old days when coins came cascading out any time you won.

And when they had an arm to pull rather than push 6 buttons.

I don't drink, don't smoke so I think that $20 an evening is fairly reasonable for me to waste on holiday.

Thankfully others have had something to actually contribute towards the question I asked.

Thanks all, can I just clarify, if (and it's probably a big if ;)) I had a win could I ask for it to be credited towards cruise account rather than take out cash?

No. You must take the cash from the casino cashier.

But then you can go to the Purser's desk and give them the cash to apply to your onboard account.
