disneywacker Posted May 31, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2015 So we leave in 2 weeks and I am super excited! What advice do you have for us? We are thinking of getting a Vibe pass if possible, did anyone get one, is it worth it? Any words of wisdom are appreciated!

I know you'd like personalized answers, but there are answers about this ship everywhere. Just go and have a good time.
kegerator Posted May 31, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2015 We are also going in two weeks and after much debate we decided not to get the vibe pass and use that money for other things. First, because we have an aft balcony room that will be large enough for my wife and I to layout and second since we live in Florida we can layout almost anytime we want. SuiteTraveler Posted May 31, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2015 What you need to know is 1. that the pool on this ship is incredibly crowded - so much so, I wouldn't even bother going there. H2O might be a bit better but there is no pool. 2. Make advance reservations for specialty restaurants as once onboard, you may not be able to get in when you want. 3. Entertainment on this ship is excellent. Make advance reservations to avoid disappointment. 4. Loved the Raw Bar - had I realized how good it was, I would have gone sooner! 5. Spa on this ship is absolutely fantastic. Hope you are in a spa cabin. If not, seriously consider a spa pass - well worth it. Never crowded. This was our hang out place. 6. Casino is great. 7. Flamingo Grill - I didn't go, but heard it was excellent.
Lori3015 Posted May 31, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2015 My thoughts on Vibe are this: it gets really hot in the caribbean sea and there is no way to cool off in Vibe. We preferred the Spice H2O because there is a cool waterfall feature that you can cool off in and then go back to sunning. Also in Spice, you don't have to get up early to get a chair, you can get one after breakfast. You can also utilize the kids pool to cool off in if you find a chair near one of the pools. The main pool does get very crowded.
Lori3015 Posted May 31, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 31, 2015 A couple more thoughts about Getaway in general: 1. You don't need reservations to the main shows like Legally Blonde and Burn the Floor but the comedy show venues are smaller and do tend to book up fast. 2. Make specialty dining reservations first day, the main dining rooms you do not need reservations which is way better and makes your vacation more freestyle which is what it's supposed to be. 3. We ate in MDR 5 nights and had very good meals. My favorite is Tropicana room the service was great and the music was good. 4. Cagneys is great food but really slow service, like snails. 5. The shows/entertainment in the atrium are really fun and they usually start around 8pm with limited seating but plenty of places to stand around and watch. 6. Flamingo Grill is a great place for lunch and breakfast if you want something different from main buffet. 7. If you want to eat at O'Sheehans don't try to do it on the bar side, go to the other side where they seat you, much better service. 8. Howl at the Moon is really fun and it's just come and go as you please. 9. Waterfront is a really cool area with bars and outside dining and comfy seats. thatjoeguy Posted May 31, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 31, 2015 So we leave in 2 weeks and I am super excited! What advice do you have for us? We are thinking of getting a Vibe pass if possible, did anyone get one, is it worth it? Any words of wisdom are appreciated! We had Vibe passes back in January and really loved it, but I imagine your trip may be a bit warmer, and as others have noted, there's not a great place to cool off other than the shower there, or drinks at the bar. Howl at the Moon was fantastic, as was Legally Blonde. The running track is poorly designed; it's also a main walking section between the grill and the observation area for the rock climbing wall. If you run, you may have a better experience on a treadmill in the gym.
Sand and Seas Posted May 31, 2015 #8 Share Posted May 31, 2015 Flamingo Grill is a great place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. On seadays you can get a great Lobster Roll at the walk-up window, Ocean Blue on the waterfront.

disneywacker Posted May 31, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted May 31, 2015 Awesome words of wisdom! I love the pictures! I worry it may be crowded onboard but your pictures do not seem like there are GOBS of people. Thank you for sharing that!

roger001 Posted May 31, 2015 #13 Share Posted May 31, 2015 I LOVE your towel party animals! :D They were some bad boys and girls. Our room steward said he just walked in and found them like that. Our last morning leaving the room, our steward said not to worry about them. He would be taking them to a good shelter. The steward was a fine guy....and a funny one. DrNora Posted June 1, 2015 #15 Share Posted June 1, 2015 (edited) We are cruising with you. She is over favorite ship! Don't miss the lobster rolls served at Ocean Blue for lunch on sea days from 12-2pm. 10 bucks but worth it. If you are prone to any GI problems, bring your own pepto bismol, etc. like all cruise ships these days you can't get much in the way of tummy-tamers once onboard without visiting the clinic( and, yes, I understand the importance of not spreading noro. Not advocating trying to cover up . But getting queasy after too much rich food and booze sometimes calls for a swig of the pink stuff.) I never go to Welcome Aboard shows but was dragged to the one on the Getaway. It was a blast! Bring glow int he dark stuff for the Glow Party. It was really fun, as was the 80s party. The gift shoppe stinks for sundries.Bring extra sunscreen. Deal or No Deal sounds corny but was a good time.. Lots of laughter. Unlessypu are in a suite or spa room there will be no shampoo and conditioner in little bottles. I think hey have a dispenser on the shower wall. If you have lotsa hair or wild hair, don't forget your own conditioner. Even the fancy Elemis stuff in the suites can't tame my mane. If you are going to the Baths on Virgin Gorda, bring beach shoes and a waterproof pouch. I am counting the days, hours, minutes and seconds on the IConcierge app" Nora Edited June 1, 2015 by DrNora i am not counting Amy', rather, am counting days
roger001 Posted June 1, 2015 #16 Share Posted June 1, 2015 How large was your balcony? Thanks for sharing the pics. Looks like a beautiful ship! Beautiful ship, wonderful crew, but the smallest balconies we've ever had. It was big enough to get the job done, but tight. We're booked again on her in a few months in a deck 8 mini suite that is one of those with the very big balconies. NCL's smaller ships, and especially the mini suites on those ships, do have much bigger balconies than the Getaway and her sister ships. I guess the mega ships are designed to maximize as many cabins as possible.
kac911 Posted June 1, 2015 #17 Share Posted June 1, 2015 Relax and enjoy, and don't let half the drama on here scare you! We are regular Disney cruisers, this was our first NCL (got off 1 1/2 weeks ago). It was very nice, yes at times the service was a bit slow or not what we are used to on DCL; same with the food. But nothing was bad. Room had lots of storage and we found it pretty easy to navigate and understand what was where and the ins and outs of it. Make sure to try the ropes course, and get a drink from Lily at the Comedy/Dueling Piano bar! Enjoy!!!
disneywacker Posted June 2, 2015 Author #18 Share Posted June 2, 2015 I am a go with the flow kinda girl. I just think with such a HUGE boat, I don't want to NOT know about something that would be great. Thanks for the mane taming advice... girl I got the hair! I am FOR SURE getting a lobster roll! 10 is cheaper than New England. I look at it as a bargain!
