Just wondering if HAL offer the option of hiring a suit onboard. If so what procedure is required to ensure there is one ready in the right size etc?

When you click on the link from the HAL website to rent a tuxedo, you are taken to "Cruiseline Formalwear", who does the actual renting of the clothing. You can indeed rent a suit, called a "Cruise Casual Suit" that is a jacket and pants, shirt, tie and matching handkerchief. I have actually rented a tux through them on a couple of cruises and was happy with the result. It's not escpecially cheap, but it can be done and saves the luggage space. :)

HAL rents Tuxedos only. You can rent one on HAL's site.

Actually you can rent a Beige suite from them but you might be able to rent a darker suit from Cruiseline Formalwear, as they do have them in a light color for suit for rent ..

You can contact them at: Cruiseline Formalwear

Customer Service 1.800.551.5091

or perhaps you could e-mail them as they have on a note on their WEB site that you can contact them for other things..

Quote from their WEB site: The availability of packages, sizes, and accessories varies by ship and embarkation port. If an item you are requesting is not available, you will be contacted by our Customer Service Department when your order is processed. You may also contact the Customer Service Department directly to inquire about specific items for your cruise. Unquote

This is their WEB site: http://www.cruiselineformal.com/cf_pages/questions.php

Good luck & please let us know if you were successful..

Inventory varies depending upon ship and departure port. For most cruises only classic black tuxedos are available, but they have the broad inventory available for departures from Fort Lauderdale.

You can also buy a decent and very cheap jacket at a thrift store and just leave it on board if you have the room to bring it with you or wear it on the plane. Have a friend who does this and he then has room for his purchases. He figures the cheap cost and a dry cleaning charge far outweigh the rental charge. The front desk on most HAL ships will accept clean used clothing which they donate to shelters along with the lost and found clothes after a certain period.
