SuiteTraveler Posted June 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 23, 2015 You can order Woolite in packets online at Amazon - even comes with a stopper in case your sink doesn't have one: http://www.amazon.com/Lewis-N-Clark-Laundry-White/dp/B00004SRAX/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1435087813&sr=8-2&keywords=woolite+travel Here's another travel product: http://www.amazon.com/Travelon-Laundry-Soap-Sheets-50-Count/dp/B000Y0CL8K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435087883&sr=8-1&keywords=travel+laundry+detergent And these: http://www.amazon.com/Tide-Travel-Sink-Packets-3-Count/dp/B000GCS004/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1435087883&sr=8-3&keywords=travel+laundry+detergent In fact, if you get on Amazon and search for travel laundry detergent you will get lots of options! OCruisers Posted June 23, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 23, 2015 I just use the shower gel or shampoo that's in our cabin. Works fine! :D LuLu
cb at sea Posted June 23, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 23, 2015 You can use a drop of shampoo, in a pinch! Really, any detergent will work. All it does is loosen the dirt and allow it to be rinsed away!
fishywood Posted June 23, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) You can find large bottles of off-brand "wool wash" at any dollar store. When travelling I transfer some to a 3 oz plastic "TSA travel bottle" (also from dollar store). Simple $2 solution. But my housemate uses the old-school solid bar of laundry soap when hand washing her intimates. And my mom swears by liquid hand soap for laundry "emergencies". So 'tis true that in a pinch just about anything is practical. Edited June 23, 2015 by fishywood
lisiamc Posted June 23, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 23, 2015 I use the ship's shampoo for my hand-washing. I won't use it on my hair, mind you, but I'm happy to wash my underwear with it! :p
Rare LHT28 Posted June 23, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 23, 2015 I use the Travelon soap leaves they work well enough
NMLady Posted June 23, 2015 #8 Share Posted June 23, 2015 I'm another who simply uses the ship's shampoo or even the ship's liquid hand soap for hand-washing delicates or other laundry I don't send to ship's laundry.
Krazy Kruizers Posted June 23, 2015 #9 Share Posted June 23, 2015 I am another one who uses either the shower gel or shampoo that is provided in the cabin. Never had a problem with either of them.
CHEZMARYLOU Posted June 23, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 23, 2015 I use the shampoo also since I don't use it for my hair. A little bit of conditioner acts as a fabric softener. (We've also used it as a shave gel in a pinch.)
Cruisin' Chick Posted June 24, 2015 #11 Share Posted June 24, 2015 I usually pack a little container of Coolove (found in dollar stores), but forgot to do so the last cruise. So I use the bar soap to get a good lather going in the water. But a little amount of the shampoo should work too.
SadieN Posted June 24, 2015 #12 Share Posted June 24, 2015 Cool Love is another brand. Could use a bit of shampoo. Conditioner can be used as fabric softener.

sbbquilter Posted June 24, 2015 #14 Share Posted June 24, 2015 I use lingerie wash that I get in envelopes - usually find it in nicer department stores lingerie department.
CruisingAlong4Now Posted June 24, 2015 #15 Share Posted June 24, 2015 I find that soap rinses better than detergent on the cruise ships. So I am with the "shampoo-ers". I leave it to the chemists to explain why. My research was very hands on.:D
GottaKnowWhen Posted June 24, 2015 #16 Share Posted June 24, 2015 OK, I bought some clothes that are easily hand washed, which I plan on doing in the sink. But what detergent to bring. I've been to two stores looking for Woolite, as I remember I used to do hand washables with that. I haven't found it yet. What are people bringing to do some hand washing? I use Ivory Liquid. I repackage into a 3-4oz bottle. Depending on sink size, it doesn't take much to wash a few pairs of socks/underwear. Stan
Shak Posted June 24, 2015 #17 Share Posted June 24, 2015 I use CampSuds. It is a concentrated detergent so a little goes a long way. I take the 2 oz size. The bottle is small and doesn't leak. For those using fabric softeners you look at the washing instructions for the clothing you are washing. Many of the lightweight fabrics that wick moisture recommend not using softeners. Nebr.cruiser Posted June 24, 2015 #18 Share Posted June 24, 2015 I have taken Woolite, but now just usually use the bar soap that's in the cabin. Sometimes I use the shampoo or body wash. One less thing to pack, and it all seems to work equally well.
xxoocruiser Posted June 24, 2015 #19 Share Posted June 24, 2015 OK, I bought some clothes that are easily hand washed, which I plan on doing in the sink. But what detergent to bring. I've been to two stores looking for Woolite, as I remember I used to do hand washables with that. I haven't found it yet. What are people bringing to do some hand washing? No need to bring any Woolite. or any other detergent. A drop or two of shampoo will work just fine. Also a drop or 2 of hair container will do the same as fabric softener. Life is Good Cruising Posted June 24, 2015 #20 Share Posted June 24, 2015 I like to use small packets of either Tide or Woolite for hand washing.
sail7seas Posted June 24, 2015 #21 Share Posted June 24, 2015 I use the ship's provided shampoo for washing my 'dainties'. If it is mild enough for my hair, it is gentle enough for my undies. :)

I've been to two stores looking for Woolite, as I remember I used to do hand washables with that. I haven't found it yet. What are people bringing to do some hand washing? ocholoco Posted June 25, 2015 #24 Share Posted June 25, 2015 I'm hugely fond of the dry soap leaves commonly used for backpacking. No liquid involved if you are flying which is nice. Also very compact and lightweight. No bigger than a pack of tic-tacs. I find 1-2 leaves works for most any sink load and washes out far better than hand soap or shampoo. Laundry detergents don't produce the copious amounts of suds that body soaps do which makes it easier to do in a confined container like a sink basin. The ones I like are From Sea to Summit. The reviews on this sort of product, regardless who sells/manufacturers, are pretty hit or miss. A lot of people think that less sudsing means less clean which isn't the case at all. Amazon has several of their soap leaves (shampoo, body, laundry, shave, etc., you have to select from within their main listing) here: http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Summit-Travel-Pocket-Soaps/dp/B002OSHEVO Or you can pick them up from REI or your fave camping store: http://www.rei.com/product/785917/sea-to-summit-pocket-laundry-wash

I've been to two stores looking for Woolite, as I remember I used to do hand washables with that. I haven't found it yet. What are people bringing to do some hand washing? I use shampoo.
