Rumor about Princess sailing from Port Canaveral

There is a rumor posted on the RCI board that Princess might be considering sailing from Port Canaveral. This would be at the exploratory stage with the Port Authority. Has anyone heard this rumor? We are 4 1/2 hours away from Port C so prefer this port.

First of all, I'm not sure the RCI board is a reliable source for information about an entirely different cruise line.

Second, please. Princess barely sails out of Ft. Lauderdale, or the rest of the East Coast for that matter. I don't see them adding another such port.

Princess is redeploying ships to Asia in order to have fewer ships in the Caribbean.

I doubt they are looking for another home port to sail to the Caribbean.

I agree. It doesn't make sense for Princess to sail from Port Canaveral when there will be fewer Princess ships in the Caribbean.

Exactly. Princess used to have a lot of ships in Ft. Lauderdale in

the winter. This winter, only Emerald, Royal and Regal are sailing

round trip from FLL. (Island/Coral visit occasionally)

Not like the old days, even though princess has more ships now.

I think these rumors are pretty much like the

"I wish princess would sail from my hometown" posts.

It would be wishful thinking on our part - I would love it but it won't happen!

Love, love, love Princess but that is why we have been sailing NCL lately just because it's so easy to pick up a cruise with little or no travel to and from involved.

The person who made that comment is a local PC resident and is someone who is very digruntled on RCI's decision to place the Majesty of the Seas in PC. He claims to know people on the PC board of commissioners and he further claims there is discussion with Princess for future deployments.

Based on the nature of his posts, I don't really trust what he has to say but if you look at the facts, it's not such a far stretch. RCI is putting Oasis of the Seas there. Carnival is putting Carnival Magic there. NCL is also bringing in one of their ships. So considering other major lines are putting their largest ships there, and also offering 3-5 night cruises on smaller ships, I don't see why Princess wouldn't consider it.

Hi Marie.........we would love it too if Princess sailed out of PC, but don't think it would happen either.

Hey Sophia or Jay! We should be so lucky. Just booked a western Caribbean in Feb on Princess. Would have gone sooner but we got a fantastic casino offer on Carnival so we will be using up the rest of Bens vacation days on a Thanksgiving cruise..from Port Canaveral.

I definitely prefer it over Fort Lauderdale so maybe this rumor will come true.

Hmmm ... I'd personally consider that a negative. The competition is getting established beforehand and Princess would be late to the party.

That said, of course Princess should consider it, why not? A couple meetings with port executives might provide some additional insight into the competition's plans and keeps the lines of communication open with the execs as well.

I've seen strategies where firms show interest just to keep the competition from getting too good of a deal. If the port folks and the other cruise lines think demand for the facilities is going to be high, fees go up up up.

If Princess moved a ship to PC wouldn't it follow that they would move their FLL operation there? If they operate out of two close ports they would have two shore crews.

I don't see why? Carnival has ports in both places and miami

Most of the shore folk work for a contractor. They simply change uniforms and badges depending on which cruise line they are servicing on any particular day.

Too bad that Princess will not be coming to PC but we can still dream ;) . Like you said on your other post, Carnival has ships at PC, Miami & Port Everglades. We overnight now when sailing out of Port Everglades so makes a nice longer vacation.

Congrats on your two cruises :) . We are still looking at Princess for a fall cruise to hold us over till our cruise next year.............gotta buy some more FCC :D !
