Dallen123 Posted July 22, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2015 Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone could help me? I have researched the options of how to get from Livorno to Pisa DIY and have found two options 1) Get a bus direct from Livorno City centre to Pisa 2) Get the No1 bus from Piaza Grande, then take the train Can anyone advise if they have done this themselves? Are these options correct? Which one would you recommend from personal experience? Thanks in advance.
Rare Hlitner Posted July 22, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2015 OK, since you ask for "personal experience" we will bite :). Based on lots of personal experience in the region we would not waste our time going to Pisa unless we had already spent many days in Florence. In fact, we would rate Pisa below many other places in the region. As to your options for Pisa, we can comment on the regional buses. But regarding the train you would be do better if you could share a taxi from the pier directly to the train station. You option #2 makes an assumption that you are already at Plaza Grande. But to get there you would need to use a shuttle bus that probably will not leave your pier until at least 8:30am. And most of the cruise lines charge money to use these shuttle buses. By the time you pay for the shuttle and then pay again for a local bus to get you to the station you will have spent as much or more then a shared taxi. Of course finding a taxi to go to the station is not always easy, but we have always managed. A taxi (with 4 or more) will cost 5 or 6 Euros per person to the station. Dallen123 Posted July 22, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted July 22, 2015 Thanks for your reply Hank. If i have understood it correctly, our select fare with P&O includes shuttles busses, free of charge. The bus timetable shows the departure time as 10.00am, to arrive at the park at 10.40am. We were hoping to do Florence and Pisa in the same day but lots of people have advised that this would be too much to attempt in one day.
Rare Hlitner Posted July 23, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 23, 2015 Although many cruisers do both Pisa and Florence in a single day, we agree with those who think it is just a bit much. Florence is one of the more amazing cities in Europe and is worthy of more then a very rushed few hours. In fact, we never were big fans of Florence when we did our visits from cruises, but started to love the city once we began to stay there for multiple nights (on long driving trips). Pisa, on the other hand, is all about the Field of Miracles and the "Tower" which is a nice place, but not in the same class as Florence. But it certainly has its place when it comes to tourism. On last visit to the Tower happened when another couple (who we drove to Riomaggiore) asked us if we could make a quick stop so they could view the Tower, It was a glorious day and we all enjoyed a few minutes gazing at the Tower (not our first time) and strolling around the area. Would we ever return to the Tower? Only to take others. Would we ever return to Florence? Yes, anytime we are driving int he region. Hank
