gtalum Posted August 6, 2015 #26 Share Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) I heard once-and I can't remember where-that Florida residents get a discount on the cruise fares. Is this true? If so, does it apply to other states that have a home port?If it's true, it might make me change my future retirement plans...[emoji1] Sometimes yes, sometimes no. As has been noted, they have state by state discounts at different times. The biggest advantage for cruisers living in Florida is the short commute to the port. For instance, living in Bradenton we can drive to the Port of Tampa in 45 minutes, Port Canaveral in about 2.5 hours, Port Everglades (Ft. Lauderdale) in 3 hours, and Port of Miami in about 3.5 hours. Edited August 6, 2015 by gtalum
Kissyfur19 Posted August 6, 2015 #27 Share Posted August 6, 2015 We moved to Florida 3 years ago so that we could drive to multiple cruise ports within 3 hours. I don't know that we necessarily have ever gotten a better deal because we live in Florida. You can go to the Fare Viewer and try plugging in different states to see if there is a difference. THIS is the best "special" you get from being a Florida resident. I can easily drive to 5 cruise ports all less than 4 hours from me and one almost right in my back yard (Tampa). Unless I am wanting to sail the West Coast of the US..there is never a reason for me to fly to a ship! :)
