Tink31258 Posted August 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2015 Hello Everyone ~ will be sailing on the Pride again in March 2016, so there have been upgrades and changes since the ship returned to Baltimore. Would like to know more about the Playlist Productions (rather than the usual shows previously on the ship like Varoom) and what everyone thinks about them. riffatsea Posted August 18, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2015 You'll have to decide for yourself but I disagree with the first 2 posters!! I highly enjoyed the show I saw last spring on the Miracle! The singers and dancers did a great job filled with high energy and some real talent ! This was an old Rock n Roll show and I am an "old" rock n roll enthusiast so I loved it!! I thought it had a fresh new feel and was happy that the old same old same old was updated! I know that is a minority opinion but then that's what makes the world interesting!!
maeormaenot Posted August 18, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2015 I loved the playlist productions on Freedom in February. They had some really good singers and they did an excellent job! My favorite was the 80s show, we didn't get to see 88 keys due to bad weather. Apparently they can't roll around those huge screens when there is super rough seas. Go in unbiased... Think positive...and let loose and relax. Some people don't like change...some do... Let us know what you think when you get back.
Singer4Him Posted August 18, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 18, 2015 We sailed on the Freedom last summer which had the Playlist Productions and we felt that they were the best we've ever seen in all of our cruises! 80's Pop to the Max was our favorite but we also enjoyed "88 Keys", "Heart of Soul", and "Getaway Island". I think this is a topic that can be very subjective. Some love it, some hate it...we LOVED it. My advice would be to go and check it out and see what you think. :)
ready2cruzagain Posted August 18, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 18, 2015 I have seen all of the Playlist production shows but except Epic Rock and IMHO they stink!! Less dancers, no live band (piped in music), lots of laser lights, animated characters on a large screen instead of dancers that interact with the two singers. The downfall of the entertainment on Carnival is one reason I started sailing Princess. I am sailing on Carnival again next year for the Journeys cruise but I will be going back to Princess after that. This is NOT entertainment. ABQrobin Posted August 18, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 18, 2015 LOVED Playlist in March. Thought is was a huge improvement over the old version of shows. Live band is nice, but it is only one part of equation.
blyle Posted August 18, 2015 #10 Share Posted August 18, 2015 We always bragged about the Carnival shows but now we notice the the other lines are beefing up their entertainment and not substituting talents shows and other things that are not good at all. We should be getting a good show of some sort everynight and not the crew talent show!
Margienj Posted August 18, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 18, 2015 I was on the Pride in May and saw the playlist shows. Having seen shows on Carnival ships for the last 10 years, I can honestly say that I prefer the shows of the past. However, it was nice to see something different. I do miss the live bands though. They would entertain while waiting for the show to start and now it's all piped in. But as others have said go in with an open mind and make your own decision. loxley Posted August 18, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 18, 2015 So far 3 have loved it and 3 have hated it......can't get more split than that. I think how few people are there tells the tale. The times we have gone, you couldn't even touch another person they were so scattered around. That stupid game show thing had more people but they were all crowed towards the front trying to get on stage. We were the ONLY people sitting in the balcony and even the lower level was maybe 1/5 filled. I have never seen such empty show rooms besides on port days. It is very sad, and even those that do come, a good number leave before the end. We were taking bets on who would be the next group to leave since we were not watching the show. Enough were leaving that it took up our time. They have replaced entertainment with flashing lights and I am assuming props. I honestly wonder how many drinks it would take for me to enjoy it. Just a warning if you are sensitive to flashing lights, avoid it. I sort of think that was why so many people were leave.

Kreader Posted August 18, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 18, 2015 Hi, I was on the Freedom last fall. Most of the playlist productions I saw were just fair. No Wow factor at all,but in the past some Carnival production shows did wow me. Playlist productions-very little actual scenery, video screen in back,no live band. Fair dancers and singers. The playlist productions I attended were only half full. I am going on the Dream this fall and really looking forward to NO playlist productions! sanmarcosman Posted August 18, 2015 #16 Share Posted August 18, 2015 Carnival created Playlist Productions to get more gamblers in their casinos. It seems to have worked judging by the poorly attended shows and the packed casinos at night during show times. I enjoyed the shows much more before Playlist with the ship's band. nybumpkin Posted August 18, 2015 #18 Share Posted August 18, 2015 I'm not a fan. Hate the canned music. I tried three shows when we sailed on Glory last year and the only one I found passable was "Epic Rock." What was telling for me was that when we went to the main production shows in past years (full orchestra and sets) there were people saving seats. Not a problem with the Playlist Productions shows I tried. This year on Breeze, the only time I set foot in the main lounge was to take pictures. I found plenty of other opportunities for entertainment - Run for Cover, the band in Ocean Plaza, was great.

leedm Posted August 19, 2015 #20 Share Posted August 19, 2015 We have sailed on a number of Carnival ships over the last 10 years. The only CCL ship now with Good to Great Shows is the Dream. The new playlist shows are not up to that standard. IMO:o:o
k2excursion Posted August 19, 2015 #21 Share Posted August 19, 2015 We have sailed on a number of Carnival ships over the last 10 years. The only CCL ship now with Good to Great Shows is the Dream. The new playlist shows are not up to that standard. IMO:o:o I have to agree with this. Triumph & Splendor also had great shows, and they currently still have them--maybe not much longer though. The new Playlist shows that I saw were not that good. They honestly weren't terrible (although Brits was embarrassing), but it's something that I wouldn't care if I missed. With the pre-Playlist shows, I never wanted to miss a single one, and I would usually go to both showings. With Playlist, the shows are half the length, with half the performers, no live music, and no props. Most of the people who don't like Playlist have moved onto other cruiselines, so they won't even be checking on these Carnival boards. Some of the newer Playlist shows have been getting better responses than the earlier ones. I enjoy a good Vegas-style show, but I also really enjoy modern concerts. Every modern concert I've been to has live music, and they do a much better job with the lighting & screen graphics than these shows. The Playlist shows cannot even be compared to modern concert shows. The performers are trying hard, but they aren't given much to work with, and they're asked to do too much. I didn't really "feel" the energy of the Playlist shows, while I certainly felt it with the old style shows.
cruzeluver Posted August 19, 2015 #22 Share Posted August 19, 2015 So far I have only experienced Playlist once. Was not at all impressed. The singers were very good, but were not served well by the cheap-looking costumes, junior high level set pieces, and pre-recorded music that gave the whole thing the feel of mediocre theme-park entertainment.
