QTPieTrader Posted September 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2015 My wife and I booked our cruise a few days ago. There was a special going on and we ended up taking it. It was for $10 off the regular web-posted cabin price (not much). I asked if my over 55, past guest, Texas residence would reduce the price even more and was told there are no other reductions offered with this special. I was given a “guaranteed ocean view” but was told I might not receive a cabin number until departure. Also, we booked only one month before sailing, if that matters. Does this sound right? We are excited to be on this cruise and will have a wonderful time, we know, but has anyone else run into this type of situation. (I booked directly through CCL) QTPie

Most likely you will have cabin assignment before you cruise but sometimes they will have to look it up for you at the pier.

There are several types of guarantee fares, and they tend to be less expensive than most discounts you would have received. A lot of times, you may have been eligible for a discount like a senior or past guest rate, but the guarantee room is still cheaper. You will most likely receive a cabin assignment before you sail, but sometimes you won't know until you get to the pier.
hartsnvt Posted September 4, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 4, 2015 Please keep in mind that when you book a guarantee rate you must be willing to be placed anywhere on the ship. You may be in a cabin that you would never intentionally book as those are the last to sell. If you think your cruise will be ruined because you are in a less desirable location , then you should try to pick a cabin and pay a higher rate. So many people do not understand this and after their cruise come back here and complain how awful their cruise was because they were in a cabin that was under the showroom, over the casino, too far forward, too far aft, etc etc. It is a gamble when you pay the lower guarantee rate. If you are just happy to be on a cruise no matter where your cabin is you will have a great time! Enjoy your cruise!
QTPieTrader Posted September 4, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted September 4, 2015 If you are just happy to be on a cruise no matter where your cabin is you will have a great time! Enjoy your cruise! WE ARE! We are sailing on the Freedom. All Ocean View cabins are on decks 1-2. Front and middle cabins are all sold out - but we don't mind aft. No reason to make a specific cabin request when aft is all that's left. QTPie

Generally the discounts do not stack. Each has its own rates, benefits and requirements. You pick the one that gets you the best deal. On board credit (OBC) usually can stack. So get your best deal then book on board for OBC, own stock for OBC, get OBC as part of some offers, get OBC for Early Saver reductions and add anything else you can stack on. Deals like you got pop up when they are trying to sell the last few cabins and are usually cheaper than standard discounts.
Denisomo Posted September 4, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 4, 2015 We just did a cruise like that where they picked the cabin, we got the info before we sailed and it was a nice cabin.
